JUVENILE HURLING

The semi-final of the Wicklow Schools juvenile hurling ‘B’ championship took place in Wicklow between Coláiste Chill Mhantain and Avondale CC.

At half-time the sides were level at 2-1 each. Avondale led towards the end of the second half but CCM rallied to draw level at 4-7 each to force extra-time.

The Wicklow school made a dream start to the extra-time period and led by 8-8 to 4-9 at half time before going on to win by 8-10 to 4-9.

The winners were well served by T J Keogh, Cian Furlong and Adam Sinnott while best for Avondale were the outstanding Torna Mulcroney as well as Darragh O’Shea, Oisin Dunne and Jack Manley.

FIRST YEAR SUPER 7s

The girls football and hurl- ing took place in Ballinakill on Wednesday.

Fifteen teams were entered in the girls football with the games being played in lovely weather on the day.

The semi-final between Gaelcholaiste na Mara from Arklow and Blessington CC was very even.

At full-time the sides were level 1-1 to 0-4. Extra-time yielded only a point for each side so a penalty shoot out was played.

This went to sudden death with Blessington eventually qualifying for the final.

However, in the final they were no match for Coláiste Bhride as the Carnew school had an impressive victory.

The turnout for the hurling final was not so good but there was an exciting final with Coláiste Bhride Carnew getting the better of St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin after extra-time.
