Hanging baskets on Main Street damaged in act of vandalism

-

Vandals pulled down hanging baskets recently installed along the Main Street in Bray.

This occurred at some time on Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday morning.

‘ The hanging baskets were installed last week,’ said David Forde, District Administrator. ‘ Three baskets were vandalised and knocked to the ground over the weekend.’

He said that the local authority reported the incident to gardai in Bray on Monday morning.

The debris was cleaned up by Bray Municipal District staff the morning after this happened.

‘ These baskets will be replaced and the cost is approximately €70 per basket,’ said Mr Forde. ‘ This act of vandalism is very disappointing as each year the addition of flowering baskets to Bray Main Street, not just by Bray Municipal District, but other retailers and traders, adds value to the experience in the town centre.’

Bray-based TD John Brady remarked on the incident. ‘Very sad to see,’ he said. ‘Some are intent on dragging things backwards by undoing the positive things that happen in the community.’

He said that he understands that a number of people may have been involved in the incident.

The colourful baskets were first installed on posts on the street for the season during the summer of 2015.
