RATHNEW

Our Seniors picked up our fifth win of the season against Dunlavin on Tuesday evening on a scoreline of 2-16 to 13 points.

This was another good all round performance, with a varied spread of scorers.

The under-16 girls played the previously undefeated Carnew and came out on top; Rathnew 7-6, Carnew 3-7.

Management were delighted as they gave their best performance of the year before they break off for exams on a busy night in the pitch.

We wish the eight girls doing exams the best of luck but we will be seeing you for training Saturday mornings.

Next game for the under-16s will be the end of June.

A very big thank you to Johnny at Rathnew Pharmacy for sponsoring the under-12 girls jerseys.

It’s great to see so many local shops supporting the club. It’s also a vote of confidence in the girls, not long on the scene.

It’s that time of the year again, fifth Kevin Gill Golf Classic is on June 10, in Wicklow Golf Club.

Can Niall Armstrong and Mick Murray be the first pairing to retain the much coveted Kevin Gill trophy? They are one of the favourites, with the competition back on their home course.

Best wishes to three local ladies and avid Rathnew GAA supporters who celebrated birthdays recently: Cissie Murphy, Christine (Doyle) Franey and Niamh Jameson. CARNEW CAMOGIE Preparations are ongoing for Féile na nGael when we host Burt, Co Donegal, over the weekend of June 16-18. The under-14s are maintaining their league schedule with recent wins against Éire Óg Greystones, Glenealy, and Aughrim, and a loss to Kiltegan.

In terms of fundraising, a table quiz was held in Hogan’s The Lodge on May 19 and next weekend will see the under-14s take on their mothers in a novelty match. This will be held in the pitch on Saturday at 6pm and should be great fun!

Meanwhile, the Under-12 League campaign has started with our side having played Arklow Rocks and Avondale in the first two rounds. They face off against Donard-Glen this coming Friday.

The under-10s played a blitz last Saturday against Knockananna, Annacurra, Arklow Rocks, and Ballinacor. They and the under-8s are out again in the county blitz in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill on June 14.

Meanwhile, the Under-16 League has finished with Kiltegan as overall winners, and the Under-16s and adult team are now on an exam break.

LARAGH

We travelled over the hills to play our neighbours Ballinacor on what was a beautiful Friday evening.

After a great win over Stratford we were looking to carry on with another victory.

We were still missing a couple of players through injury but we managed to put out a strong starting 15 with five decent subs on the line to bring in when needed.

From the throw in we could see it was going to be a tough battle but after two minutes we had scored 1-01 with the goal coming first from Mark Miley and the point from Keith Lawlor.

But we knew the Cors would come back at us and they did with a couple of points but we got back with a great 45 from Damien Hanlon and another goal from Mark Miley after great play which started from our full-back line.

We added four more points before half-time from a John Nolan free keith Lawlor Damien Hanlon and John Nolan. Half-time score read 2-06 to 0-07 in our favour.

The second half got under way with a monster of a point with a free from Damien Hanlon. It was point for point all the way to the end with scores from keith Lawlor another great free from Damien Hanlon and a final score from Mark Miley. Final score: 2-10 to 0-11 for Laragh.

It’s always a nice feeling to win a local derby so well done to all involved.

This was a solid team performance with everyone giving 100 per cent. There was also some great scores taken on the night especially the two goals from Mark Miley and the dead balls from Damien Hanlon.

Next up is An Tochar at home this Friday at 7.30pm. It was great to see all our supporters shouting on the lads this is a great help to all the players and hopefully this will continue for the season especially for all our home games.

Team on the night: James Nolan, Stephen Curley, Peter Merrigan, Ciaran Byrne, Craig McCoy, Gary Cullen, Jack Dunne, Davie McDonald, Damien Hanlon, John Nolan, Steve Olohan, Aran Lynham, Keith Lawlor, Mark Miley, and Dan Power. Subs: Jamie Cullen, Andrew Kenny, Ross Doonan, Hugh Cullen and Fergal Olohan.

The club and supporters wish Damien Hanlon a speedy recovery from his serious facial injuries which happened during the game.

Hopefully we’ll see him back on the playing field asap.

Training continues weekly and everyone needs to attend if we want to continue winning games.

The club wish all that are starting exams the best of luck.

Laragh GAA would like to congratulate Wicklow’s Senior camogie team on there great result in the final against a strong Offaly team. We wish you all the best in the replay.

BALLYMANUS

The Intermediates had a point to spare in their league outing last week away to Stratford in what was a tetchy game where Stratford finished with 13 men.

There was little between both teams in the first half. Stratford had the brighter start and went four points to one up before we got our purple patch and went in at the break 0-05 apiece.

Stratford started the second half well too with two quick points but then we hit 1-4 on the bounce to open up a good lead.

Stratford then had their second man sent to the line with 10 minutes remaining.

We fell asunder as Stratford took momentum and in the end we were lucky to leave with the two points as Stratford had the chances to at least equalise. Next up is Ballinacor.

There was no lotto jackpot winner last week. The numbers drawn were 5, 10, 22, and 25 with Bob c/o Gerry Keogh, Tom and Catherine Byrne match three winners.

Our Seniors were on the road to Hollywood on Tuesday night, after a bad start, down six points at half-time the team showed a great spirit and we came away with a draw 1-11 each on the night.

Our under-11s hosted Rathnew on Wednesday night and yet again had another good win.

Our Junior team were at home to Coolkenno on Thursday night but we were not able to produce a win on the night.
