Tegan pulls out all the stops in Newry
ARKLOW’S up and coming ladies Girl 4 65kg boxer Tegan Farrell pulled out all the stops when beating the much fancied Lauren Levelle when Leinster took on the might of Ulster in the Cloughreigh Centre in Newry on Sunday.
Tegan was ready for the attacking style of Levelle and in the first round Tegan caught her with a tremendous straight left followed by a right hand resulting in Levelle getting a standing count.
In round two, Levelle again come out attacking. Tegan countered, catching her with a big straight right resulting with the referee stepping in and stopping the contest, Tegan winning by a TKO.
Linda Morgan, Tegan’s coach, who is also in charge of the Leinster girls development squad, said It was a brilliant display of technical boxing and she was delighted with Tegan’s performance.
The icing on the cake was that Leinster won the inter-provincial by nine bouts to six. A good day for Leinster ladies boxing.
In other news, Arklow boxer Aaron Tuke returned home from Budapest with a bronze medal from a multi nations competition with 12 nations involved.
Aaron was a guest of Smithfield BC in Dublin Aaron won two contests against two Hungarians in the preliminary contests which was a tremendous result against the home nation boxers.
In the semi-finals, Aaron faced a Finnish opponent who beat him by a split decision.
Never the less Arklow officials are delighted with Aaron’s performance.
Arklow ladies, parents and friends run next weekend in the Dublin Ladies Marathon and are out with the cards currently seeking sponsors.
Three juvenile boxers, Owen Moore, Eimnin Mc Cormack, and Daniel Fox will participate in the National Championships weighing in on June 9.
This will be the final activity of the season before the summer break.
