Calary resident Graham makes it through to ESB Apprentice Awards final
Well done to Calary Resident (Glas na Mullan) Graham Sutton for making it to the final four of the apprentice of the year with the ESB last Thursday.
The Awards were held in the ESB Network Training Centre in Portlaoise. Graham was one of four apprentices shortlisted for the awards with James O’Hanlon ( Tramore), Luke Ryan (Ballyboughal) and Dan Phillips from Rathfarnham, who was announced the eventual winner of the coveted ESB Networks Apprentice Network Technician of the Year following successful completion of a series of tasks in a high-pressure setting by the four finalists.
The high-profile event took place at the ESB Networks Training Centre in Portlaoise in sweltering sunshine and saw the four apprentices engage in a range of exercises, which were assessed by a judging panel. These tasks were selected to simulate real life conditions faced by ESB Networks Technicians. They included sub-station wiring, cable commissioning, transformer tests and ATV driving and inspection.
ESB Networks Managing Director Marguerite Sayers said that the standard of this year’s competition was exceptionally high. ‘I warmly congratulate Dan Phillips for winning out on the day. With safety a core ESB value, meticulous attention to detail by all finalists was required. It is hugely satisfying to see first-hand the range of skills displayed by each of the four finalists.’
