Coláiste Chill Mhantáin
END-OF-YEAR/EXAMS
As another school year draws to a close, we would like to wish all of our students success in their exams, especially the Third and Sixth Year students who are sitting their junior and Leaving Certificate exams in June. These students have worked hard and can approach their exams confident in the skills, learning and insights they have acquired during their years in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin.
We would also like to thank the entire school community, including students, parents, management and staff, whose leadership, support, hard work and participation have helped to make 2016-17 another successful year in the school. Thank you also to the members of the board of management whose ongoing support helps to underpin all of our achievements in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin. We would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful summer break.
AWARDS DAY
On Friday morning, May 19, the whole school assembled for the annual Awards Ceremony. A host of student achievements, curricular and extra-curricular, were celebrated and honoured at this lovely, warm ceremony.
The ceremony afforded us an opportunity to reflect on the successes of the past year and to reward students for their achievements and leadership in areas of academic life, sport, art, music, culture, science, enterprise, public-speaking, to name but a few.
Sincere thank you to our guests of honour, Mr Charlie Bird, Ms Nicola Lawless, Chair of the board of management, and Mr and Mrs Varghese, whose son, Millen, was honoured through our annual photography competition. Well done to all who coordinated and participated in this wonderful event.
GRADUATION SERVICE
Well done to everyone who contributed to the service last Thursday evening. On a warm and sunny evening, we celebrated with the graduating students, their parents and the many teachers who could be in attendance. It was a lovely evening for the participants and their families. We trust that this occasion will have created another memory for the class of 2017 to add to their treasure trove of memories amassed over their six years in our school.
TY NIGHT OF CELEBRATION
Organised, representative, fun and affirming was very much the feeling of all present on Wednesday, May 24, at the TY Night of Celebration 2017. Through hard work, clear expectations and a motto of full participation, this year’s revamped Transition Year course has been a tremendous success.
This was a most enjoyable night with all staying on to enjoy a cup of cup to discuss the night/ year that was – always a good sign. Many thanks to all for making this a successful and enjoyable event.
ECO-UNESCO YEA 2017
Congratulations to the Transition Year students who were Highly Commended for their biodiversity project, ‘Our Wildlife Garden’ in the ECO-UNESCO YEA 2017. For their garden, students made bird-feeders from upcycled plastic bottles, bird-houses from old pallets and planted Irish wildflowers around the school to attract more bees.
CSPE PRESENTATION
Well done to the Third Year students of three Foyle, who presented the money they raised from a Sponsored Walk to Wicklow Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who organised and, of course, contributed to this very worthwhile event.
HURLING
First and second Year hurlers had a tough encounter against West Wicklow in the B county final. Although the lads battled valiantly, the Dunlavin school had a physical advantage and some highly skillful hurlers as well. Charlie Cruise and John O’Brien were greatly missed due to injury, but we had excellent performances from James Ffrench in goals, Adam Sinnott at full back, Tom O’Brien and Teejay Kehoe in the forwards, and the whole team who battled bravely to the end.
