Harbour users want to be involved in decisions
It is essential that harbour stakeholders be involved in any decisions involving the area, they believe.
This emerged from the second meeting of the Bray Harbour Joint Development Committee recently.
The newly formed committee held its inaugural meeting on May 16 and met again on June 6.
The committee consists of elected and official representatives of Wicklow County Council and Bray Harbour Action Group, which represents water based activities in Bray Harbour. It was formed in response to a problem of siltation at the harbour.
The committee agreed ‘ to develop options and make recommendations for maximising the potential of Bray Harbour as a centre for water based leisure and commercial activity and as an amenity for all the people’.
It was agreed that the Joint Committee could play a constructive role in: Identifying stakeholders, articulating their interests and keeping communications open.
They are interested in developing a vision for the harbour that reflects interests of all stakeholders and the public, and developing a brief for advisors and in reviewing and assessing proposals and make recommendations to the appropriate authorities.
They agreed that all stakeholders should play a part.
