Par­ents are sav­ing money by shop­ping at Tesco and Aldi for generic uni­forms

SCHOOL uni­forms are of­ten seen as one of the big­gest bur­dens as they pre­pare to send their chil­dren to school.

Grow­ing kids cou­pled with the rough and tumble of school life not to men­tion fre­quent wash­ing can of­ten re­sult in par­ents be­ing forced to buy at least one school uni­form per child each aca­demic year al­though of­ten they are forced to sup­ple­ment this with var­i­ous parts through­out the year.

For those who don’t re­quire spe­cially branded uni­forms there are plenty of cheaper op­tions which can be picked up while do­ing your gro­cery shop de­pend­ing on the colour of the uni­form.

Aldi is ad­ver­tis­ing one of the cheap­est school uni­forms go­ing at the mo­ment where it is pos­si­ble to pick up a school uni­form com­pris­ing two polo shirts, a sweat­shirt and a trousers or skirt for a mere fiver.

Boys and girls shoes start from €6.99 at the Ger­man re­tailer.

The cheap­est uni­form item at Aldi starts at €1 for a round neck sweat­shirt while a two pack of short sleeve polo shirts costs €2.

A two pack of short sleeve shirts, girls or boys, start from €3.49 while a pair of trousers, girls or boys, starts from €2. A two pack of girls knit­ted cardi­gans starts from €6.99 while a pi­nafore two pack is €7.99.

A two pack of crew neck tee shirts costs €1.99 while a girls pleated skirt starts at €2 in a va­ri­ety of colours. A pair of jog­ging bot­toms comes in a €3.49. Socks start at €2.49 while tights are €4.49. Back­packs are €8.99.

Uni­form sizes start at 3-4 years and go up as far as 10-11 years. Aldi rec­om­mend par­ents buy­ing a size up say­ing that chil­dren grow fast while the clothes are ma­chine wash­able, colour­fast, tumble dryer friendly and easy iron. Tesco is also cur­rently sell­ing uni­forms for very com­pet­i­tive prices with prices vary­ing de­pend­ing on size.

A two pack of polo shirts range from be­tween €3.25 to €6.50 while a two pack of boys short sleeve shirts range from be­tween € to €6.50. A two-pack of long sleeve shirts range from be­tween €4.50 to €7.

A two-pack of trousers comes in at be­tween €8.50 and €14 while a twopack of shorts is €5.50.

A boys jumper ranges in price from €3.25 to €6.
