Festival-goers get into the Groove!

GROOVE FESTIVAL is upon us and the stage times have been announced for the coming weekend’s musical acts at Killrudder­y.

On Saturday, August 19, Columbia Mills are first on the main stage at 1.30 p.m., followed by Chasing Abbey at 2.45 p.m.

Jerry Fish will be on at 4.15 p.m., Hudson Taylor at 7.15 p.m. and headliners Primal Scream at 9 p.m.

Over on the Sony Xperia stage, Jamie Duff will kick things off on Saturday at 2.15 p.m., followed on the hour by Third Smoke, Farah Elle, Chris Wise & The Hidden Revolution, Katie Laffan, Ailbhe Reddy and Daithi.

Sunday’s main stage will start with Na Fianna at 1.30 p.m. Spring Break will be on at 2.45 p.m., and Stomptown Brass at 4.15 p.m.

Cry Before Dawn will play at 5.45 p.m., Hothouse Flowers at 7.45 p.m., and headliners UB40 at 9.10 p.m.

Carrion will open Sunday’s Sony Xperia stage at 2.15 p.m., followed on the hour by I Am Niamh, Bocs Social, Jack O’Rourke, King Bones, The Fitzafreni­c and John Smith.

The two-day festival will also include Thrive - a lifestyle and wellness event making its debut at Groove Festival this year.

You can balance doing a yoga class then chill out enjoying the best of music, food and festival fun. No festival is complete without food and Groove is providing one of the best menus at any Irish Festival. Sharon Shannon’s newly launched Garden of Vegan food truck will be on site alongside the delicious Korean fare. Bray’s legendary Box Burger will be serving a special Groove menu as well as another famous local, The Happy Pear food truck.

Co-promoter Avril Bannerton of Taste of Dublin will ensure that festival-goers have loads to choose from throughout the weekend.

There will be a range of options from traditiona­l festival fare and healthy options to gourmet delights.

Local favourite Box Burger will launch a brand new burger at the festival, while Killrudder­y’s head chef Seamus Hogan will be using produce from the farm and walled gardens as well as ingredient­s sourced from producers in the weekly farm market. The menu will include delicious Killrudder­y Pork Spit Roast with fennel and orange, sauerkraut, homemade

HISTORICWA­LKANDEXHIB­ITION

Newcastle Residents Associatio­n has organised this free, Heritage Week talk and map exhibition, which is suitable for all ages. The group will meet at the centre before travelling to Ballyvolan Stud, where they will hear about local history before visiting the adjoining woodlands and then travelling back to the centre to see the exhibition.

Delgany and District Horticultu­ral Society will present the best of dahlia blooms as growers hope to take home a prize.

IMUSTBETAL­KINGTOSOME­ONE

This show will be an evening of humour featuring excerpts from the works of Eamonn Kelly, Hugh Leonard, Flann O’Brien and others. Taking place as part of Heritage week, tickets cost €5. do a few pop up vegan dinner events and a live show with Sharon each year has now developed into a fully dedicated mobile food truck which attends music festivals, events and corporate functions throughout Ireland and the UK.

The Happy Pear food truck will also be there, as well as plenty more including Urchin, Boojum, BBQ Blasta, Jaru and others.

A familiar part of Heritage Week, the Irish Landmark Trust will again open up the doors of this wonderful lighthouse. Guests can imagine life as a lighthouse keeper during their self-guided tour of the restored 18th century lighthouse.

WICKLOW CLIFF LOOP WALK

Friends of the Murrough are inviting people to join them this Heritage Week for panoramic coastal views, magnificen­t scenery, penal church ruins, a lime kiln and ancient spring. The walk and run is in aid of Purple House Cancer Support Group and 100 per cent on the entry fee goes directly towards helping those battling cancer and their families. The race is open to all ages, although children must be a minimum height of 1.2m. Entry is €40 (€20 if you still have a suit from a previous sumo run) or €144 for a team of four. Wicklow SPCA are inviting young and old to their animal sanctuary this Heritage Week to learn skills such as pottery, wood whittling and knitting. Items from yester-year will be on display while people will be sharing stories from childhoods long ago. This is a free event suitable for all ages.

Tres Brazilian Cultural Centre presents the second Brazil Meets Bray which is a family-friendly event

featuring Brazilian music, crafts, prizes and food. Admission is free.

NUN’SCROSSCHUR­CHOPENDAY

As part of Heritage Week, explore a gothic revival 200-year-old church influenced by architect Francis Johnston, with connection­s to Roger Casement and JM Synge. This is a free event suitable for children.

ITS IN YOUR NATURE

HERITAGE WALK TO BLESSED WELL
