Wicklow’s U-16s seal

-

THIS week saw action both at local championship and inter-county underage levels.

Knockananna and Glenealy drew first blood in the Senior championship with wins over Carnew and Ballinacor respectively. Last night (Tuesday), Donard-The Glen travelled to Glenealy and Knockananna met Ballinacor. Annacurra were first up for a win in what promised to be a lively Junior championship.

The county under-16s qualified for the final of their Progress to Success All-Ireland competition with a convincing semi-final win against Monaghan.

The under-14 development squad had two teams in the Kil- dare camogie blitz played out at Rathcoffey GAA Club and we’re delighted to come away with some silverware.

Congratulations to Emily Martin from Gaelscoil Chill Mhantain and Glenealy Camogie Club. Emily played in the mini games in Croke Park during the epic Waterford/Cork match on Sunday - as a result of her success in the Wicklow Skill Tests earlier in the year.

Young Camogie players in West Wicklow enjoyed a 3 Day Camogie Camp based in Hollywood GAA this week - the last of this year’s Camogie Camps. Under 8s + 10s were busy at Blitzes in Bray and Arklow.

Coming up this week we have Under-16 club championship on Wednesday with Avondale v Kil- coole/Eire Og, Carnew v Aughrim/ Ballinacor, and Bray Emmets v Knockananna.

On Saturday, the under-17s are playing in the All-Ireland blitz to prepare for next season’s Minor competitions. Also on Saturday, the Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill hosts under-14 squads from Meath, Kildare, Donegal and Westmeath as well as two Wicklow squads for a blitz in preparation for the All-Irelands on September 9.
