Chan­tal or­gan­is­ing an an­tiques fair with flair

A BRAY an­tiques dealer will host a unique fair with flair in one of the ‘ big houses’ of Ire­land this week­end.

Chan­tal For­tune is cu­rat­ing the an­tiques fair at Wells House in Wex­ford which takes place this Satur­day and Sun­day, Septem­ber 16 and 17, from 1 p.m.

The Bray res­i­dent and for­mer pro­pri­etor of Florence For­tune’s An­tique Shop has planned a fan­tas­tic com­bi­na­tion of dis­plays and demon­stra­tions that will en­sure the week­end is a riv­et­ing an­tiques ex­pe­ri­ence.

Among the at­trac­tions will be a fine se­lec­tion of deal­ers sell­ing their wares, in­clud­ing jew­ellery, silver, china, col­lectibles, fur­ni­ture and car­pets. An old rivet re­paired china col­lec­tion will be on dis­play with a crafts­man Mark For­tune demon­strat­ing how it was done; in the Great Hall, there will be fur­ni­ture restora­tion demon­stra­tions by Mau­rice Mol­loy of Mol­loy Restora­tion; and, on the Sun­day, paint­ing con­ser­va­tion­ist Pearl O’Sul­li­van will hold a paint­ing restora­tion demon­stra­tion.

Chan­tal her­self will be do­ing free iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and val­u­a­tions through­out the week­end, which is al­ways a high­light for visi­tors.

This is the third year that Chan­tal has hosted this an­tiques fair, which is per­fectly placed inside the Tu­dor Gothic ar­chi­tec­ture of Wells House with its beau­ti­ful in­te­ri­ors, wares and won­ders. Wells House is lo­cated at Bal­lyed- mond, south of Gorey. En­try to the fair is €3 per per­son and an €8 en­try fee per car to the grounds ap­plies.
