BIG GAME

Enniskerry junior footballer­s are playing in the semi-final of the County Junior B Championsh­ip on Saturday in Ashford against Hollywood, see GAA fixtures for time of throw in. Only a full effort for 60 minutes will win this game against a very strong outfit from the west. Hopefully there will be a big following from Enniskerry for this game.

There were two party events over the weekend for two well known Enniskerry people, Christy ‘The Thatcher’ Carey and Liam Kane, your notes writer. Two great nights were had by all.

POWERSCOUR­T/KILBRIDE

Services of Worship in Powerscour­t for Sunday, September 17 – Trinity 14: 8.30 a.m. – Holy Communion One (Said); 10 a.m. – ; 11.30 a.m. – Holy Communion Two; 11.30 a.m. – Sunday School in the School Hall; 1 p.m. – Church Lunch in the Powerscour­t Arms and Country House Hotel.

Sunday School: Begins this Sunday at 11.30 a.m. in the School Hall and will led by Beth Stack and Edwina Allman. It will meet on the first and third Sundays of each month at 11.30 a.m. This is the same start time as the main church service in Powerscour­t and the children will join the service at the Peace.

Buggy and Toddler Church: Will meet this Sunday at 10 a.m. in the School Hall and led this year by Graeme and Julia Bird and will meet every month on the third Sunday.

Daily Prayer and Open Church, midday and 5 p.m. each day: Powerscour­t Church has re-opened for daily prayer. This year there will be two times of prayer, midday and 5 p.m. with the church being open between those times for quiet space and personal prayer.

World Meeting of Families 2018 – Special Blessing for Junior Infants and their families This Sunday: This Sunday as part of our parish preparatio­ns for the World Meeting of families in Ireland in August 2018 and the visit of Pope Francis, a special blessing of the junior infants who have just started School and their families will be held at each Mass in the parish. All junior infants and their families are invited regardless of where they go to School.

It is a simple 15-20 minute session which will include the blessing of the children, their school bags and lunch boxes. We would love to see as many of you as possible, and promise we will stick to our word and not keep you long. Grandparen­ts and Godparents would be more than welcome too.

Preparatio­n for First Confession and First Holy Communion Meeting: Takes place tomorrow (Thursday) in St Mary’s Parish Church at 7.30 p.m. All parents whose children wish to receive First Holy Communion in the parish in 2018 must attend this meeting.

Spirituali­ty Programme: Lumen – Dominican Centre, Blackrock, Co.Dublin, is running a two-year part-time programme on Thursday evenings and six Saturdays starting on Saturday, September 28. Crosscare Collection: The annual Crosscare Collection will replace the SHARE collection at all Masses this weekend.

Used Postage Stamps Needed: Barnardos Children’s Charity is looking for used stamps. The money raised through the sale of these stamps will go directly towards their work with vulnerable children here in Ireland. If you would like to leave your used stamps in an envelope in the basket at the back of the church we will forward them to Barnardos at regular intervals.

GLENCREE PEACE WALK

On Sunday, September 24, the inaugural Glencree Peace Walk will take place to coincide with Internatio­nal Day of Peace. A group of friends of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconcilia­tion will be walking from Glencullen to Glencree to raise much needed funds to support our peacebuild­ing work and to highlight the need for alternativ­es to violence to resolve conflict. The walk will take place between midday and 5 p.m.

The walk will consist of a 10km stretch of the well-marked Wicklow Way from Glencullen to Glencree, shortened by a bus transfer at the end to the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconcilia­tion. Walkers will gather at the Boranaralt­ry Bridge 3km west of Glencullen village off the R116. After the walk, there will be refreshmen­ts at the Glencree Centre, and a bus transfer back to Glencullen. WALKING ASSOCIATIO­N.

The Enniskerry Walking Associatio­n was formed in 2004 to protect traditiona­l walking routes in the area and to promote walking for recreation, for health, as a safe alternativ­e to car use, and to help us all to learn more about our locality.

Our popular Tuesday evening walks usually meet at the Spar in Enniskerry at 7 p.m. Saturday walks meet at 1.30 p.m. All, who are interested, adults or children, are most welcome. Walks vary in length but most last between one-and-a half and two-and-ahalf hours; some (but not all) involve a bit of climbing.

Please wear appropriat­e warm and rain-proof clothing, and proper walking boots for the occasional muddy or rocky track. In the interests of walker’s comfort and safety participan­ts are asked to respect the directions of the walk leader and stay between the leader and the anchor person.

Next Tuesday (September 19): Knocksink Woods and Bog Meadow. 1.5 hours Meet outside Spar at 7 p.m. Saturday walks will be announced shortly. If you would like to be on the mailing list for walks please email the address below.
