Reward for return of missing horse

- BY MARY FOGARTY

A horse went missing in Glencree in recent weeks and her heartbroken owner is desperate to find her.

‘She’s no Shergar or anything, but she’s extremely valuable to me,’ said Laura Murphy, who has owned the 17-year-old mare Suzie since she was a child.

Some time on September 13 or 14, the small ginger horse went missing from her field in Glencree.

She had been in this field, next to the Knockree Youth Centre, with a herd of nine other horses for two years, where she was checked on and looked after by the livery yard owner and manager.

‘I discovered she was missing on the morning of Friday, 15 September, when I went to get her for our weekly lesson,’ said Laura.

She was the only horse to go missing. ‘It isn’t in her nature to go wandering, particularly not away from the other horses. She’s never broken out of this field or any field before in her life,’ said Laura.

‘We have scoured every inch of the fields and ditches. We’ve also checked neighbouring fields, ditches and forestry but just can’t find her anywhere. It’s like she just vanished.

‘We’re appealing to everyone to keeep an eye out for her all over the country. In particular the people who are walking the Wicklow Way, or even anyone with a drone who thinks they could help. It’s becoming increasingly more likely that she was stolen and so she could be anywhere by now. If you see a chestnut horse, it can’t hurt to take a picture and send it to me, it could be her. She really could be anywhere by now.’

A generous reward is being offered to anyone who thinks they can help and get Suzie back home safely.

Suzie is a 15 hands high chestnut mare with a white stripe on her face and four white socks. The back left sock is more of an ankle sock than a knee-high.

Anyone who thinks they see Suzie or know where she is can call (087) 2998128.
