ARKLOW TOWN A GREYSTONES UTD B 4 1

ARKLOW TOWN’S under-13s got the better of a brave Greystones B side in a thrilling 4-1 win over their league rivals last Sunday morning at Bridgewater Centre Park.

Arklow Town began the game with great confidence and took the game to their opponents right from kick off. The home side had the majority of the possession in the first five minutes and almost had an opening goal on the seventh minute. Midfielder Jan Jie Huang made a great run down the left wing and released a powerful shot but Greystones keeper James Greene made a great save to keep the game at 0-0.

Striker Scott Kavanagh was causing problems for the Greystones defence and almost scored on the 10th minute when he went one on one with James Greene but again Greene pulled off another spectacular save to keep the score level.

Greystones were finding it difficult to keep out Arklow’s forward line and were lucky not to concede on the 14th minute when winger Thomas O’Reilly hit the post after a darting run up the left wing.

As the game went on Greystones found their confidence and could have opened the scoring when Conor Keogh went close just before half time, the striker looked like he had only the keeper to beat after receiving an excellent through ball from Kevin Dillion but Arklow Town midfielder Jan Jie Huang got back to put a tackle in and got a touch on the ball to put it out for a corner, a great recovery from the Arklow midfielder.

Arklow Town opened the scoring on the 32nd minute mark, a well delivered corner from Keith McMillan found Scott Kavanagh who volleyed the ball into the net to make it 1-0, a great strike from the Arklow man.

It wasn’t long before Kavanagh got his second of the game, Tiernan Gahan made a great run down the right wing beating two defenders before squaring the ball Scott Kavanagh who opened his body up to get the shot off. A great run by Gahan and another superb finish by Kavanagh again.

Greystones got back into the game on the 42nd minute when George Morrison was fouled in the box resulting in a penalty to the away side.

Matthew Hyland stepped up and stroked the ball into the corner of the net; a well taken penalty from the midfielder to get his team back in the game.

Arklow Town winger Tiernan Gahan was running riot on the right wing, going past players with ease but Greystones keeper James Greene was pulling off some wonderful saves to keep the game at 2-1.

Jan Jie Huang got a well deserved goal on the 50th minute after another one of his darting runs down the left wing. The midfielder had been dominating in centre midfield and went off on a run beating everyone in front of him before lobbing the keeper to make it 3-1, a great run from the midfielder with an even better finish.

Huang added an assist to his name on the 59th minute when he played a superb through ball to Keith Mc Millan who went around the keeper and slotted home to finish off the game and make it 4-1 with a minute to go in the second half.

A great competitive game from both sides with credit to the travelling side Greystones United who never gave up despite the score line but Arklow Town went away with all three points.
