Carnew march on in style with magnificen­t seven

LFA Junior Cup Round 1

Carnew AFC netted a magnificen­t seven as they cruised through the first round of the LFA Junior Cup, beating Greenfield FC 7-0.

Adam Doyle bagged a double, with Seán Kinsella, Brendan McCrea, James Behan, Cillian Gilligan and Eoghan Mulholland adding a goal apiece in an emphatic victory.

Ashford Rovers had a tougher assignment, as they edged out Kildare outfit Ballycane Celtic 2-1 at Ballinalea Park.

The visitors took the lead in the second-half, but Ashford were soon level, when Robbie Eyre squared for Finn Brooks, who finished from close range.

It looked like extra-time was on the cards, but Danny Byrne latched on to a long throw from Mick Taylor and finished to the net to send Rovers through.

Elswhere, Arklow Celtic proved too good for Brookevill­e AFC, winning 6-2, while St. Patrick’s AFC went down 3-1 to Coill Dubh Athletic (see focus matches).

Andy McEvoy Premier 1

Newtown United had their shooting boots on on Sunday and they put shellshock­ed Dublin Dynamo to the sword, running out facile 12-3 winners in their Andy McEvoy Premier 1 clash.

Matthew Kennedy netted a hat-trick, and Dillon Carthy repeated the trick, with two coming from the penalty spot.

Martin Williams and Neily Martin both helped themselves to doubles, while Lorcan Kenna and Conor Odlum also got in on the act to complete the rout.

St Peter’s FC overcame Roundwood 5-2, thanks to a Seán Devlin double, Chad Ryan, Killian O’Carroll and an own goal.

Goals from Patrick Woods and Damien Johnson had given Roundwood a 2-1 lead at the interval, but it was one-way traffic in the second-half with St Peter’s scoring four without reply.

Pat O’Toole Division 1B

Arklow United picked up three points when winning by the odd goal in seven in their Pat O’Toole Division 1B clash against Shamrock Celtic on Sunday.

Jonny Quinn and David O’Neill both bagged doubles for the winners, with Tom Duffy (two) and Greg Doyle replying for Celtic. Elsewhere Glencormac United drew 1-1 away to Bohs Supporters Club and Templeogue United overwhelme­d Old Court Celtic 8-0.

Division 3

Harrison Penn helped himself to a double for Avonmore FC as they overcame Aughrim Rangers 3-1 in their Division 3 clash. Jacob Hamilton got the other goal for the winners, with James Byrne replying for Rangers.

Arklow United also chalked up a 3-1 triumph, beating Carnew AFC on their travels thanks to a Denis McAuliffe double and a Jason Carey goal.

John Tobin Youth League

Mark Cullen and Oisin McGraynor fired Avonmore FC to a 5-2 victory away to Roundwood in the John Tobin Youth League. Cullen helped himself to a hattrick, with McGraynor adding a double in an impressive triumph.

Nathan Doyle was another player to net a treble as Ashford Rovers beat Wicklow Rovers B 5-2, with Tristan O’Toole and Tommy Quinn getting the other goals for the winners.

Elsewhere, Oisin Okotete and Shaun Doyle hit the back of the net for Aughrim Rangers, but they lost out 6-2 to Arklow Town.
