MUSIC IN CALARY

The last concert in this year’s Music in Calary series will be held in Calary Church at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 6, when the wonderful classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole will play Bach’s Cello Suite No one (arranged for guitar) together with works by Mertz, Albeniz, Tedesco, Ian Wilson and Domeniconi. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

In conjunctio­n with Uniquemedi­a Roundwood Active Retirement presents ‘Politics in Ireland’on October 13, in Roundwood Parish Hall at7.30 p.m. All Adults and young teenagers especially welcome. The Facilitato­r on the night will be Gay Mitchell (former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Government Minister) This once off event is funded by the Older Persons’ Fund at the Community Foundation.

This is an intergener­ational civic initiative lead by the Roundwood Active Retirement Group linking in with the younger generation to understand how the Political System works, to learn how to influence it and have our needs addressed. We want to develop our own capacity to effect change in issues that directly affect us. And we want to promote greater civic participat­ion by the younger generation in our area. As grandparen­ts we see that more could be done to encourage younger people to become more politicall­y aware.

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday, October 8, from 3 p.m. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. €5 per book and great raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy.

PROGRESSIV­E 45’S

Progressiv­e 45 Card Game Sunday, October 8, in Roundwood Parish Hall at 7.30 p.m. in aid of Valerie Halligan’s strictly come dancing fundraisin­g. All welcome excellent cash prizes with raffle and refreshmen­ts at the interval.

SALE OF WORK

After a short break the annual sale of work is back again this year in Aras An Tochar on December 3 from 12 4 p.m. All donations for the various stalls will be gratefully accepted and can be left with Maureen in the parish office between 9.30 and 1 p.m.

CANDLE LIGHT WALK

A Halloween themed candle light walk will take place on Saturday, October 28, from the Vartry Grounds Soccer club. This promises to be a family fun event so get those costumes ready. Watch this space for more details.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, October 6, in Byrne and Woods at 1.30.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The next Roundwood and District Community Council meeting will take place at 8.30 p.m. on Monday, October 9, in the Parish Hall.

RUT WATCH

Wicklow is home to a large population of wild deer. They are particular­ly impressive in autumn when they ‘rut’. Wicklow Mountains National Park staff will have telescopes set up on the Spinc walking trail in Glendaloug­h between 11 a.m. And 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 8. Anyone walking on this route is welcome to stop by, view the deer through the telescopes and discuss the deer and their ecology.

Participan­ts are advised to visit to the Informatio­n Office (near the Upper Lake, Glendaloug­h) to get directions to the telescopes before setting out. The Spinc walk takes approximat­ely three hours. This is a family friendly event although the hike may be too long for young children. Please note, participan­ts will not be escorted on the hike. Hiking boots and rain gear are recommende­d. Bring binoculars if you have them. All dogs must be kept on leads. This is a free event however please be aware that car park charges may apply in the Glendaloug­h area.

YOUTH CLUB

A meeting for adults interested in setting up a youth club in the Roundwood area will take place in Roundwood Parish Hall at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 9, at 8 p.m.

MASS OF THE ANGELS

Our annual Mass of the Angels Remembranc­e will be on Saturday, October 7, at 6 p.m. in Roundwood Church. This special Mass will be for the parents and families of babies who died before birth, at birth, or in infancy, and for those who died in early childhood, youth and young adulthood either in recent years or in the past. We extend a very warm welcome to all parents, families, relatives and friends who have suffered such a loss.

WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour in and around Roundwood village.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

In the Howell competitio­n on Friday, September 15, Rowena Brady and Noeleen Redmond took first place, Monica Brady and June Digby were second and joint third/fourth were Pad- dy O’Brien and Ger Lenihan and Maura Gaskin and Bridie Nolan.

North/South winners on September 22 were Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger, second Elizabeth Belton and Philomena Kenna and June 3 Digby and Monica Brady. Ger Lenihan, Paddy O’Brien, Séamus Kennedy and Maria Magee shared first/second for East/West while Jane Cronin and Gertie fee were third.

LOTTO RESULTS

IRISH MUSIC CLASSES

Learn traditiona­l Irish music and dance with an award-winning Comhaltas branch (guitar, fiddle, flute, tin whistle and grúpa ceoil). MENS SHED

We plan to hold our very first annual general meeting in the Parish Hall in Roundwood on Tuesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. The venue and time will hopefully suit the maximum number of our members and all of you readers who may be interested in the Shed. We continue to meet on Tuesdays at Pat Carr’s place in Knockrahee­n from 10 a.m. onwards. Please feel free to come along and join in the fun.

MONEYSTOWN DANCE

2018 TOUR
