Area mourns loss of three great men
WHAT an awful week it was in Kilmacanogue as we lost three of our most dear and great characters.
Firstly on Sunday (October 15), we heard of the passing overnight of Eddie McDonnell, who died suddenly after a short illness surrounded by his loving family at St Vincent’s University Hospital. Eddie was pre-deceased by Greta and their daughter, baby Heather and also by his brothers David and Joe and sister Marion.
He was the devoted and much-loved father of Sandra, Tracy, Carol and Paula and the thoughts and prayers of this community are with the girls who have now lost both parents in recent times at a relatively young age.
Eddie was of course also the cherished grandad of Jade, Conor, Darragh, Luca, Rohan, Lucy, Billy, Zara and Emily and he was very proud of all his grandchildren and a great and proud supporter of their sporting achievements also.
He was also a loving brother of our own ‘Golden Girls’ in Glencormac, Ann and Aileen and he will also be sadly missed by his sons-in-law, brothers-inlaw, nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.
Eddie was a great character, always in good form and known and loved by so many who have certainly plenty memories of him. His popular appeal was reflected in the large crowds that attended on Wednesday night when Eddie reposed at Colliers Funeral Home on Old Connaught Avenue, where prayers were held and many were there to help and support the family at this sad time.
His Requiem Mass took place on Thursday morning in St Mochonog’s Church, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Farewell ‘Eddie Boy’, we all have great memories of your time with us, rest in peace.
Paddy Lawless (Kelly) Also on Sunday (October 15), Paddy Lawless (Paddy Kelly) of Kindlestown Park and late of Red Lane, Kilmacanogue, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in St Lucy’s Ward, St Vincent’s University Hospital.
His death is deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary (née Smith), daughters Geraldine and Deirdre, son Eamonn, cherished grandchildren Rachel, Dylan, Oisin and Andrew, brothers-in-law Pat and Kevin, daughter-in-law Sonya, sonsin-law Alok and Damian. He will also be sadly missed by Eithne, Brigid, Andrea and Lin- da, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends and all at Kilmacanogue GAA Club.
His funeral Mass took place on Wednesday morning in the Holy Rosary Church, Greystones, followed by interment in Redford Cemetery in Greystones where a large crowd travelled to pay their final respects. Rest in peace Paddy.
John Donnelly Stunned was the common word in Kilmacanogue on Saturday evening when word spread that John Donnelly had passed away following a tragic accident at his home. He spent most of his working life working at Irish Lights and was the county secretary of the Wicklow Ploughing Association, but we all knew him as a great community person and friend and what a devoted member of Kilmacanogue GAA Club he was.
John was predeceased by his sister Mary Melrose and will be remembered with love by his devoted wife Mary and family, daughters Orla McHugh and Fiona Power, sisters Anne Woodcock and Eilish Donnelly, sons-in-law Larry and Brendan, grandchildren Eamon, Aoife, Ciara, Aisling and Lisa, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
John’s funeral Mass will take place at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, October 26) where various organisations and teammates that John was associated with over the years will pay their own respects. Farewell John, a real gentleman who will be missed by all who knew him.
