Fatti and John bring a grá for Gaeilge to Bray with launch of ‘Foclóiropedia’
Father-and-daughter duo Fatti and John Burke launched their ‘Foclóiropedia’ last Friday morning at Dubray Books on the Main Street in Bray.
In 2015, Fatti and John Burke brought you Irelandopedia, then Historopedia in 2016, and now they bring you Foclóiropedia, a beautifully illustrated book which contains everything your child needs to take their first steps into the Irish language.
The book is filled with Fatti’s instantly recognisable style of witty drawings, and complemented by John’s in-depth knowledge and grá for An Ghaeilge.
And it’s not just for children! From sections on Caitheamh Aimsire (hobbies) to Mionchomhrá (small talk), get ready to re-imagine the drab Irish books of old. Whether you are chomh balbh le cloch or chomh críonna leis na cait, you will find something the reignites your passion for Irish. The Burkes celebrated their two former books selling over 100,000 copies since their release.
This figure contributed hugely to the growing sales in children’s books in Ireland, an area in which the rest of the world is seeing a downward trend.
Kathi ‘Fatti’ Burke is a Dublin-based Illustrator. Her first book, Irelandopedia, has won three awards, including the Ryan Tubridy Show Listeners’ Choice Award at the Irish Book Awards 2015, and was a nation- al bestseller.
John Burke is Fatti’s 70-yearold dad. He is a retired primary school teacher and was Teaching Principal of Passage East National School from 1980 to 2009. He has always been interested in environmental studies, local history and exploring Ireland. He is currently a board member of Waterford Teacher’s Education Centre and Secretary of Barony of Gaultier Historical Society. He lives in Waterford.
