27 teams take part in participation day in Bray Emmets

-

AN impressive total of 27 teams took part in the Allianz fifth and sixth class boys football participation day recently.

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol’s third and final outing, before the Halloween mid-term, was for the boys of fifth and sixth class and similar to the third and fourth classes, this was their first outing of the year. The boys performed impressively in this participation blitz in Bray Emmets GAA ground.

Thankfully the weather forecast lived up to expectations and there were ideal conditions for the children to display their teamwork and team spirit.

Again, the boys’ level of skill and game awareness was exceptional and there were some fine team performances to be viewed in all seven groups.

Most encouragingly we had over 300 boys showing their enthusiasm to play and to develop their Gaelic football skills.

Again, a special word of thanks goes to Dave Barry and Michael Ó Murchú for organising the grounds for the children and for overseeing the fixtures in Groups 1 and 2. To Garrett Doyle, GDA, for organising our transition year student referees, and furthering their development, as well as overseeing Groups 3 and 4, to the teachers/ coaches who helped run Groups 5, 6 and 7, thank you for your cooperation and help.

To the two young whistlers from Kilcoole N.S., what a great display by you both, well done!

Lastly to the children who attended the blitz - ‘maith sibh’, bhí sibh ar fheabhas, sár iarracht ó gach uile imreoir.

The 27 participating teams were from the following schools: St. Laurence’s Greystones (4 teams), St. Kevin’s Greystones (4), Ashford (3), Kilmacanogue (3), St. Patrick’s Wicklow Town (2), St.Peter’s Bray (1), St. Cronin’s Bray (2), Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh Brí Chulann (2), Moneystown (1), Newtown (1), St. Brigid’s Greystones(1), Kilcoole (1), Scoil Chulann Brí Chulann (1) and Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin (1).

The participation day for fifth and sixth class girls football has a new date.

The girls’ participation day will now take place on Wednesday, November 8, in Bray.

The focus of the day is on participation and giving as many children as possible the experience of playing football, regardless of experience.

There is no age limit on the children who are participating.

Games will be nine-a-side with points only no goalkeepers.

Referee will throw in the ball on the half-way line after each score. There will be three backs, three midfielders, and three forwards.

Please respond by email to David McDonnell, Girls Football Officer (davidmc04@hotmail.com) to confirm attendance or text him (087 7715885) by Tuesday, November 7.
