CARNEW AFC A DYNAMO DUBLIN FC 3 1

CARNEW AFC chalked up another fine Premier victory with this 3-1 win over Dynamo Dublin on a sunny Sunday morning at the Back Alley.

Donning their new jerseys, kindly sponsored by the Winning Enclosure bookmakers, the Carnew men bagged two goals in the second half, one from a fine header from Graham Byrne and the second a neat finish from Cillian Gilligan, to build on the 1-1 half-time tally after Danila Mazunin had replied to Graham Byrne’s 27th minute opener after 33 minutes.

Long grass and soft turf made sexy football unlikely but both sides tried their best to make the most of the sunny morning with some decent patches of play and some nice attacking moves on show.

The early exchanges were honest and open with keepers Marcus Kokenberg for the Dynamos and Carnew’s Seanie Kinsella called into action in the opening minutes with Kinsella getting down swiftly to thwart the danger of an early shot.

A long PJ O’Keeffe ball couldn’t be controlled by JJ McCrea while Oleh Sirchushin’s shot blazed over Kinsella’s crossbar with seven on the clock as the action moved up and down the grassy sward.

A nicely squared ball to the impressive PJ O’Keeffe saw the midfielder make a poor connection and record another wide for the home side while a foul by Brendan McCrea on Sergei Chernyshev earned the Dynamos a free but Seanie Kinsella leaped like a stag to claim the crossed free.

After the early settling in period, Carnew looked the more comfortable if the two teams and James Behan had a shot saved by Kokenberg and also blazed wide with 20 minutes on the clock.

The handy looking Andrius Bitastas went wide for the Dynamos and PJ O’Keeffe opted for another shot from distance but his effort was poor but you got the feeling that we weren’t far from the opening goal and so it came to pass.

A Carnew corner was met by the head of Graham Byrne and Kokenberg couldn’t stop the powerful header from crossing his line and the home side took to the lead with 27 minutes gone.

Their advantage didn’t last long. A poor ball from JJ McCrea to Brendan McCrea was cleared easily by the Dynamos defence and Bogdan Schlemkevich’s cross was met by the head of Dan Nolan who headed to Schlemkevich who sent the ball back again and a dirty bobble saw Nolan’s miss hit his second clearance and the ball fell to the waiting Danila Mazunin who blasted home past Kinsella for the levelling score after 33 minutes.

Stung by this goal against them, Carnew attacked with purpose but JJ McCrea had a shot saved and blasted wide before he and Conall McCrea were replaced by Will O’Neill and Cillian Gilligan after 39 minutes. The home team had a chance at the end of the opening half but Cillian Gilligan’s free kick was too tame to trouble Kokenberg while Oleh Sirchushin fired over Seanie Kinsella’s crossbar late on to leave the half-time score at 1-1.

Dynamos attacked early on but Roma Pryyma was too high with his effort to trouble Kinsella after two minutes while Cillian Gilligan almost caught Kokenberg out with a dainty lob but his effort brushed the top of the Dynamos crossbar with five on the second half clock.

And then Carnew lost Brendan McCrea to a bizarre red card. The home side won a corner and McCrea trotted over to take it. An incident ensued between the Carnew man and the linesman (a Dynamos mentor) and referee Frank Crossadell flashed a red card at a stunned McCrea and Carnew were down to 10.

If anything, the dismissal drove Carnew on and moments later Graham Byrne rose highest to connect with a Cillian Gilligan free to return Carnew to the front at 2-1 with 60 on the clock.

A minute later, Carnew attacked again and Marcus Kokenberg took Declan Doyle out of it as he headed for goal and the ball followed on with Cillian Gilligan in behind and the Carnew man calmly slotted home to make it 3-1 for the home team with Dynamos going down to 10 men when Kokenberg was shown red for his foul on Doyle.

The game lost the sense of real urgency after that. Andrius Bitastas went in goals and pulled off a few nice saves but Carnew weren’t going to be beaten at this stage and they eased out to victory at 3-1 over a gallant Dynamo Dublin.
