Soccer action

A few teams in action over the Bank Holiday weekend. The under-10s had a great 4-2 win this morning over St Anthony’s. Two excellent finishes from Seán Prendergast and goals from Jude Leahy and a cracking finish from Luke Kelly sealed this victory. Luke put in a great performance with Seán Sweeney also having an excellent game in goal. Congratulations to coach Ricardo Barreto on the birth of his new son. Hopefully he will become as good a player as his big brother Kaiter is for the 10s. The under-14s were in action in the SFAI under-14 all-Ireland third round and were narrowly defeated in a 4-3 defeat away to Prosperous in Kildare. The goals came from Adam Dutton, Euan Bowman and Dylan Henry. This was another great display against a premier side from the Kildare league and the Glens went 1-0 down half way through the first half but equalised just on half time through Adam Dutton. In the second half it was very evenly matched till two lapses in concentration saw two goals conceded with Prosperous now leading 3-1 but the lads fought back with a goal from Euan Bowman to make it 3-2 with five minutes left and then Dylan Henry made it 3-3 in the last minute and just as it looked as if we were going to extra time the ref awarded a dubious penalty in injury time for hand ball which never touched an arm and the home side scored it to win 4-3. The Glens players can hold their heads high as they have done the club and the Wicklow league proud.

The seniors were at home to Ashford Rovers on Sunday and drew 2-2. The Glens trailed 2-0 following some sloppy defensive errors but managed to pull one back just before halftime through Sam O’Callaghan. In the second period, Glencormac dominated and missed numerous chances buy only had Nathan Watters headed equaliser to show for their efforts. Simon Doyle had an outstanding game for the Glens.
