NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Our under-10s travelled to Conary to take on St Patrick’s of Avoca and in an end to end game the difference was the home side took their chances while our team who did enjoy some good moments were wasteful in front of goal and didn’t defend well enough. Frank Lang and Aidan Heffernan scored for Newtown. Among those who starred were Ryan Collins, Pat Carey and Aaron Roy. Our under-11s were involved in the WDSL under-11 Blitz in East Glendalough at Sunday lunchtime. The team played five games where they won two, drew one and lost two games. All in all they enjoyed all the games and every player on the day played their part in the blitz.

Our first Last Man Standing competition got under way last weekend (October 28 to October 30) and we had 90 Players kicking it all off. Its €450 for the winner of the competition and you can keep up to date with the LMS on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Many thanks to everyone who supported this fundraiser and it is very much appreciated.

The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league are running a fundraiser ‘The Kube’ on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown. It is hoped every club will enter at least one participant to take on the Kube. The entry fee is €300 per participant, which each club must pay themselves or can, get sponsored. Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member.

As yet the club haven’t decided who will take on the Kube on behalf of the club but we have a couple of interested parties. Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does.

We had intended to have one player but we can officially announce that two coaches from the club Stephen Nolan and John Dunleavy will be representing the club on the night (no pressure lads). The lads have been very active in collecting sponsorship in the past month so please support the lads as they raise some much-needed funds for the club.

Both lads have to select a song as their entrance music and as both are fully paid-up members of the boy band club they will probably need a dig out when it comes to selecting that tune that will get the adrenalin flowing on the night and inspire the lads to glory.

We have only one player from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and he is Romain Beauge from the Development Squad. Happy

birthday, Romain, from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.
