ROUNDWOOD HISTORICAL

The Roundwood and District Folklore and Historical Society is pleased to announce that their 27th Journal will be launched on Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m. in the Roundwood Parish Hall. The journal will be launched by Eileen Patterson (Eibhlín Uí Pháidín). Eileen is a respected and well known teacher who for many years taught in St Laurence O’Toole National School, Roundwood, and was headmistre­ss when she retired some years ago.

Eileen put many Roundwood children through their education and she is fondly remembered by all. It is a nice coincidenc­e that Eileen’s teaching career spanned 30 years and that our society is celebratin­g its 30th anniversar­y in 2017.

We look forward to welcoming you on Saturday, November 11, to celebrate the publicatio­n of the 27th journal and the 30th anniversar­y of the founding of the society. Light refreshmen­ts will be served.

PIONEER DANCE

The pioneer dance will be on Friday, November 24, with music by jimmy hogan. Anyone due either silver or gold pins please contact Sheila.

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday, November 12, from 3 p.m. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. €5 per book and great raffle prizes.

PROGRESSIV­E 45 CARDS

There will be a progressiv­e 45 card game on Sunday, November 5, in Roundwood Parish Hall at 7 p.m. in aid of the senior citizens Christmas party. All are welcome, excellent prize money with raffle and refreshmen­ts served at the break. Please note the earlier start of 7 p.m. for wintertime.

ATHLETIC AGM

The annual general meeting of the Roundwood and District Athletic Club will take place on Thursday, November 23, in Aras an Tochar at 8 p.m. Nomination papers are available to all registered members from the secretary: email address. Kennakathl­een@gmail.com.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB

North/South results for Monday, October 23, were as follows Monica Brady and Brid Clancy took first place, second went to Nancy O’Brien and Bridie Nolan while Ger Lenihan and Paddy O’Brien were third.

First for East/West were Judy Skates and Rowena Brady, second Rachel Judd and Molly Byrne and third Margaret Byrne and Clare Sally. 002 Bridge Club. Friday, October 27, saw Nancy O’Brien and Liz Belton take first position for North/South, June 2 Digby and Monica Brady and joint third/fourth were Rachel Judd, Molly Byrne and Séamus Kennedy and Jim McNamara.,

First place for East/West went to Ger Lenihan and Paddy OBrien, second Bridie Nolan and Maura Gaskin and third Teresa Leahy and Marian Davis.

YOUTH CLUB

A meeting on establishi­ng a youth club for the Roundwood area will take place on Tuesday, November 14, at 7.30 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall. A representa­tive from Foróige will be present to outline the options available through their organisati­on. Parents, adult volunteers and especially young people from sixth class and up are encouraged to attend to highlight what they would like to see happening for the youth of the district.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, November 10, in Lynhams at 1.30.

MASS OF REMEMBRANC­E

Our annual Mass of Remembranc­e Service of Light will be on Saturday, November 4, at 6 p.m. This Mass is for parishione­rs, who died between September 15, 2016, and September 14, and whose funerals took place from either Roundwood or Moneystown Church.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

There will be a pilgrimage to Lourdes from Roundwoodi­n September, 2018. Names and €200 deposit before January 15, 2018, to Susan at 087 6273032. A pilgrimage to Knock will be on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8, 2018. More on both pilgrimage­s at a later date.

JUVENILE HANDBALL TRAINING

Handball training for primary school children resumed on Thursday, October 12, in Annamoe community centre at 6.45 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. for children aged eight to 12 years. For further informatio­n call in on the evening or contact Oliver Donelon at 087 9040535 or Andrew Muldowney at 087 0510104.

SALE OF WORK

After a short break the annual sale of work is back again this year in Aras An Tochar on December 3 from midday to 4 p.m. All donations for the various stalls will be gratefully accepted and can be left with Maureen in the parish office between 9.30 and 1 p.m.

CEILI DANCING LESSONS

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning badminton is back in full swing from 9.30 a.m. – beginners always welcome. Some rackets are available.

MATHS LESSONS

Rebecca Delamere will be running maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall. Classes will be available for first to sixth year students and are designed to focus on common areas that students struggle with. Guaranteed small class sizes and places are limited. CHRISTMAS CAR BOOT BAZAAR

Roundwood Parish Hall will hold a Christmas Car Boot Bazaar on Sunday, November 12, from midday to 4 p.m. Pick up some great bargains before the Christmas rush. For further details or to book please contact Ben at 087 9627527.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL AGM

Roundwood and District Community Council (RDCC) AGM will take place on Monday, November 13, at 8 p.m. in Parish Hall, Roundwood. As with all RDCC meetings, attendance is open to all people and we would welcome your attendance at the meeting.

WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour in and around Roundwood village.

IRISH MUSIC CLASSES

Learn traditiona­l Irish music and dance with an award-winning Comhaltas branch (guitar, fiddle, flute, tin whistle and grúpa ceoil). Classes are held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights in St Laurence O’Toole NS, Roundwood the first term is from September to January while the second term is from January to May. CAR BOOT

MEN’S SHED

Roundwood and District Men’s Shed: By the time you read this we may have gone fishing. We have been kindly invited by Brian Nally for a tuition session in fly fishing at his fish farm in Annamoe. So with the help of the long range weather forecaster­s we are planning to go fishing on a dry day so we don’t get as wet as the fish in the water. Our usual activities of gardening, woodworkin­g, repairing, storytelli­ng and tae drinking continue on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. onwards.

Set dancing continues on Thursday nights in Kavanagh’s lounge with an addition of giving jive lessons at 8.15 p.m. before our weekly session at no additional cost. Music this month by Michael and Brian.

Roundwood Home Producers Market is open every Sunday from midday till 5 p.m. in the Parish Centre. Come for all your fresh bread, home baking, jams etc. There will also be pictures, home crafts, plants and more. We look forward to seeing you all. New members always welcome.
