Two local producers in the running for Bord Bia awards

-

TWO Wicklow businesses have been shortlisted for Bord Bia’s biannual Food and Drink Industry Awards.

The Happy Pear in Greystones has been nominated for two awards in the Branding and Digital Marketing categories, while Wicklow Wines of Newtownmountkennedy has been shortlisted in the Innovation Award category.

A record number of quality submissions were received by Bord Bia which were then adjudicated by a team of seven independent judges.

Twenty-four companies were shortlisted in all.

The Happy Pear was nominated after demonstrating that they have differentiated themselves from competitors by using creative marketing communications and how the imaginative use of digital platforms can strengthen a company’s performance. The Happy Pear’s marketing strategy has been built around the concept of storytelling and the creation of a movement, rooted in family and community using healthy food to bring people together. The company recently launched 15 new products and have a social media following of over 800,000.

The Innovation Award category recognises companies that are thinking ahead and proactively tracking the changing consumer landscape to develop original products and deliver solutions to meet ever-evolving consumer needs. Wicklow Way Wines created Móinéir Fine Irish Fruit Wines, Ireland’s first strawberry and blackberry wines made from Irish berries.

Having launched over 15 months ago, Móinéir wines are now available in over 60 locations around Ireland and their first major export is under way.

The awards take place on Wednesday, November 29, in the RDS Concert Hall and will be hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan.
