Coláiste Bhride tops in blitzes

-

TWO blitzes were played during the week in Ballinakill with Colaiste Bhride Carnew coming out on top in each.

There were four teams in the first year camogie on Tuesday with Gaelcholaiste fielding a camogie team for the first time.

Avondale CC went close to reaching the final but it was the two teams from Colaiste Bhride qualifying to play each other with the A team running out winners and the trophy was presented by Cathy Forde to the joint captains Sadhbh Buttle and Melissa Doran.

Eight teams took part in the boys first year football blitz on Wednesday.

Colaiste Bhride A team went through their section unbeaten to clinch a place in the final.

Three teams finished level on points in the other section Arklow CBS, Woodbrook College and Blessington CC.

Blessington qualified on scoring difference but were no match for Colaiste Bhride in the final.

Hugh Kenny presented the trophy to the winning captain Sean Hughes.

It was a successful week for the Carnew school as their junior hurlers overcame Kilkenny opposition Ballyhale to reach the South Leinster junior hurling C final.

At half time they led by 1-8 to 1-7, the goal coming from Eoin Young while Joe Conroy was accurate from frees.

Colaiste Bhride added second half goals from Conor Hughes and Eoin Kavanagh to run out comfortable 3-13 to 1-7 winners.

The junior camogie B final will feature the same teams as the senior B after Friday’s semi finals where both Avondale CC and St Kevin’s CC were comfortable winners.

Katie Tyrrell, Emma Hayden, Daisy Summer Cullen Dunne and Caitlin Kennedy starred for the Dunlavin school.
