Our juvenile AGM which will bring the curtain down on the past year is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, at 7.30 p.m. in the clubhouse and everybody is invited along to review the past season and plan ahead for the next. Please can all managers complete a seasons report for the Wicklow GAA yearbook about their teams year and send it to the secretary, it must be done this week to go to print for Christmas. Well done to Alun Owens and Paul Donohoe, who completed their foundation course last week.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

All our teams were in action last weekend with a mixed bag of results. Our under-8s hosted Rathnew and a game full of goals and loads of action proceeded to take place. Best for Newtown on the day were Kayla Hamilton, Aaron Nolan and David McCormack.

There was a right old tussle between our under-9s and Wicklow Rovers Green and at the end of the game there was just a couple of goals between the two teams. JV Kelly, Nathan McMahon, Alex Ryan and L8on Byrne were among the players who hit the net. Everyone connected with the under-9s and the club send their best wishes to for a speedy recovery to Oisin Duffy, who suffered a hand injury during the week.

Our under-10s had a great game at home to Wicklow Rovers Green on Sunday and though we came out on the wrong end of the result we played some very good football. Pat Carey scored for Newtown while among those who starred were Sebastian Anton, Aidan Heffernan, Darren Fisher and Daniel Eager.

Our 11’s reversed that scoreline in their game at home to Rovers Green where Jake Robertson and Matthew Doyle scored two goals each though each scored a goal thanks to a big deflection. Among the players who starred were Cillian Coffey, Rose Kelly Tynan, Evan Fahey and Brooklyn Doyle.

Our 12’s played really well in the first half away to Rathnew where they led 1-0 thanks to a goal from Grace Murphy in the Cup. Aaron Hackett made a great save from a penalty in that half as well. Unfortunatly a couple of individual mistakes early in the second half resulted in goals for the home team and a few heads went down and Rathnew ran out 5-1 winners. On the day best for the 12’s were Grace Murphy, Patrick Martin and Aaron Hackett.

Our 14’s were in cup action away to Roundwood and in this first leg they let a two goal lead slip in the last 10 minutes to share the spoils in a 2-all draw. Our goals came from Shane Dunleavy and a Luke Breen effort with the aid of a huge deflection. Marcel Kocajda was probably Newtown’s best player on the day.

The following are the fixtures for the weekending Sat/Sunday, November 25/26: under-8s away to Wicklow Rovers Green ko to be confirmed; under-9s away to Wicklow Rovers White ko to be confirmed; under-10s at home to St Patrick’s ko Sunday at 11.30 a.m.; under-11s at home to Arklow United Stripes ko to be confirmed; under-12s away to Rathnew FC ko to be confirmed (12/13 Challenge Cup); under-14s Fixture to be confirmed (fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)

Our Last Man Standing competition heads into week four with all 62 Players remarkably still standing after week three. Fixtures for week four will be the games on the weekend of November 24 to November 26. Its €450 for the winner of the competition and you can keep up to date with the LMS on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Many thanks to everyone who supported this fundraiser, it is very much appreciated.

The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league had hoped to run a fundraiser ‘The Kube’ on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown, but unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control the event has had to be postponed till a latter date. The new date is April 8, 2018, and while it is disappointing that the event has been cancelled the new date offers the club the opportunity to raise more funds. The entry fee is €300 per participant, which each club must pay themselves or can, get sponsored. Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member. Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how our reps do. We had intended to have one player but we can officially announce that two coaches from the club Stephen Nolan and John Dunleavy will be representing the club on the night (no pressure lads). The lads have been very active in collecting sponsorship in the past month so please support the lads as they raise some much-needed funds for the club.

We have two players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Tyler Doyle from the under-8s and Martin Kelly from the under-14s. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

On a sadder note the club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Andrew Waters (St Joseph’s Road), Louis Ellis (Killadreenan) and Kathleen Crean (née Merriman) of Newcastle/ Ashford, who all sadly passed away recently. May they all rest in peace.
