RNLI fayre

The Bray Branch of the RNLI are hold a Christmas Fayre in the Little Flower Hall beside the Holy Redeemer Church, Main Street, Bray on Saturday, December 2, from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

RNLI Christmas cards will be on sale and there will also be the usual stalls, cakes, greenery, books, crafts, good quality bric-a-brac and a raffle.

Teas and coffee will also be available.

Bray Lions Club auction

Hotel breaks in Donegal and Adare, original paintings by local artists, restaurant vouchers and much more will go under the hammer at the Bray Lions Club annual auction which takes place in the Wild Goose Bar (formerly Hollands) Bray, on Friday, December 1, at 8 p.m.

Auctioneer Danny Bohan hopes to have more than 100 items to sell with target prices ranging from €5 upwards.

‘It is an ideal opportunit­y for the people of Bray to pick up some Christmas bargains while helping Bray Lions Club projects’, said Karl O’Broin, president of Bray Lions Club.

‘Every cent raised at the auction will go to a good cause in Bray’, he adds. ‘Lions members cover all administra­tive expenses through their annual subscripti­on , ensuring that all contributi­ons from the public go direct to a good cause.’

Bray Arts show

The Bray Arts Show takes place in the Martello Hotel, Bray on Monday, December 4 at 8 p.m. Admission is €5 or €4 concession. The evening will include a reading by poet Anne Fitzgerald, dancy with The Zoryanna, and a performanc­e by The Ronan Gallagher Band.

Christmas market

Bray Beach Boutique Christmas Market is back, this time at the, newly-refurbishe­d Jim Doyle’s pub on Bray Seafront. Markets will take place on Sunday, December 3, 10 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a generous selection of the very finest, handpicked seasonal stalls showcasing local art, craft, fashion, food and more. Grab yourself a festive drink at the bar, and head upstairs and out to the beer garden to browse for the perfect Christmas gift.

Over the three weeks, they will be joined by a mix of superb stalls such as, KT Apparel (Katie Taylor’s Merchandis­e/Apparel), Aoife Hester Photograph­y, and Threadful Designs. Bray Gospel Choir will soundtrack your lunchtime market mosey, with their mix of Christmas carols and gospel songs on the December 10 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Bray Flower Club demo

Bray Flower Club are holding a Christmas gala demonstrat­ion by Janet Maddock on Thursday, December 7, at 8 p.m.

The event will take place in the Little Flower Hall.

Tickets are €15 and available from Mermaid Florist on Main St and Fleurtique on Florenace Road.

Babies at the Bridge

Babies at the Bridge. Meets every Tuesday 10.30 till 12 at The Epworth Hall, Florence Road. For new mums/ dads/ or minders and their first baby. Age group: Newborn up to crawling. Voluntary contributi­on of €3. Tea, coffee, biscuits and chat.

Better relationsh­ips

Christmas stables

Make the most of your family time and bring the children along to see Santa’s animals at Powerscour­t Garden Pavilion from November 25. Kids will love the chance to meet some farm animals right up close including Santa’s deer (including Rudolph), pygmy goats, miniature donkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs.

All the family will also enjoy meeting Robby the Christmas Robin with kids wildlife guru Dale Treadwell at Powerscour­t Garden Pavilion. Dale will be reading his children’s books ‘Robby the Christmas Robin’ and ‘Harry the Hedgehog’ as part of fun interactiv­e Christmas activities.

Aware

Mental health organisati­on Aware-hosts a support group every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in the Villa Pacis Centre, on the grounds of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Putland Road in Bray.

Aware support groups offer individual­s the opportunit­y to talk openly about depression, bipolar and other related mood disorders and their impact.

People want to remain living in their own homes and their communitie­s and HomeLink reaches out to older people making them feel more comfortabl­e so they can live at home for longer.

The staff and volunteers contact members with regular phone calls, arrange small repairs and organise a range of social events throughout the year.

Alzheimer’s Café

The Alzheimer’s Café in Bray meets from 2.30 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the Orchard, Bray Old Folks Associatio­n, Killarney Road.

The café is a relaxed place where people with dementia, their families and friends, health and social care profession­als come together for education and support over a cup of tea.

It is a safe space where people can share experience­s and talk about dementia.

This is a voluntary joint initiative by St Columcille’s Hospital and Community Health in south Dublin and Wicklow.

The service is free of charge and welcomes people with all types of dementia and their family members and carers.

Badminton

Bray Greystones badminton club welcome beginners, back to badminton players and juniors every Thursday night in BIFE, Novara Road, Bray, from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

GROW mental health group

GROW Community Mental Health Movement meets every Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Parish Centre, Queen of Peace Church, Putland Road, Bray.

If you are lonely, isolated or suffering from stress, why not come learn a practical psychology of mental health? GROW is a mutual help, mutual support group for personal growth and change.

The group meets weekly, using a 12 step programme of recovery.

Book club sat the library

There are two book clubs at Bray Library.

The Family Book Club is for ages eight to 12 and parents and meets on a Saturday at 2.45 p.m.

The Adult Book Club meets on a Wednesday at 11 a.m.
