St David’s prove too strong for gutsy Glenart

THE weather was the winner last week with a number of games postponed.

These were the Senior hurling ‘B’ final between Arklow Schools and West Wicklow Schools, the Senior football ‘A’ semi-final between Avondale CC and Coláiste Bhride Carnew and the South Leinster junior hurling ‘C’ final between Coláiste Bhride and Presentati­on De La Salle Bagenalsto­wn.

The only games to go ahead were the girls Junior football ‘A’ quarter-final between St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin and St Mary’s College Arklow and the boys Junior football game between St David’s Greystones and Glenart College Arklow.

In the girls game, victory went to the Dunlavin school by 6-7 to 6-5. They will now meet Dominican College Wicklow in the semi-final in the New Year.

In the boys game, St David’s were convincing winners against Glenart.

St. Davids led 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time. The first half had been evenly contested but David’s were playing against the wind The Greystones school had too much overall power and skill and go on to meet Coláiste Chill Mhantain in the next round.

Glenart battled bravely and never gave up the fight.

St. Davids had fine performanc­es from their captain Neil Browne, Roy Byrne, Dan Hicks, Taylor O’Sullivan, Ben Hogan and Alex Hackett.

Glenart had great workers in Cian Mc Loughlin, Josh Whitmore, Sean Davenport, Dan O Reilly, Lee Walker, Lee Hannigan and James Breen.

Referee was Eddie Leonard.
