ÉIRE ÓG GREYSTONES

The coiste of Éire Óg wishes its players, bainisteoirí, trainers and all who helped to make the 2017 season the success it was a very Happy Christmas. It also wishes a Nollaig Shona to you, the club’s supporters, and expresses a míle buíochas to all who contributed to the various fund-raising projects particularly to the lotto which at time of writing stands at 12K.

In January the coiste took the brave step in going paperless and thanks primarily to the Trojan efforts of Daniel English the move has been seen, even by the sceptics, as the correct one. While the Lotto income in 2017 was down on that of 2016 the ancillary costs were reduced to such a degree that profits were increased.

The lotto is a major contributor to the financial health of the club so if you see the promotion of Gaelic games in the area as a worthwhile project you might consider subscribing. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and may be purchased from Daniel at englishdaniel@hotmail.com or through the club’s Facebook page (accessible on eireoggreystones.com). Beannachtaí na Nollag oraibh go léir.

Comhgáirdeachas to St. David’s on reaching the final of the Senior ‘B’ football Shield.

They defeated Woodbrook College (the former St Brendan’s) 7-13 to 3-4.

The first half was quite closely fought so the Greystones total dominance of proceedings in the second period came as somewhat of a surprise.

Best for St David’s were Seán Cranley (1-5), Eoghan Ó Lonaigh, Sam O’Callaghan (2-3), Luca Rampersand (3-1), Neil Browne and Alan O’Donovan.

As you are no doubt aware there was a huge feeling of grievance within Éire Óg at its Senior hurlers and footballers being forced to play knock-out games in both codes within 22 hours of each other in the autumn.

There was quite an overlap in personnel between the games and it was felt that the fixtures were made without due consideration of player welfare.

Following on this treatment of the club the coiste put forward the following motion to the recent County Convention “dual clubs cannot be fixed to play championship matches in both codes at a shorter interval than 48 hours without their consent”.

The club’s cathaoirleach (none of the gender implications of ‘chairman’!) put forward a very convincing argument in his proposing of the motion and it was

We wish them a lifetime of happiness and health together.

Coolboy C.F.D Group Coolafancy vs Coolboy: The Rematch - After what some described it as a controversial draw last year, Coolafancy’s finest will take on the Coolboy men and women in the long awaited rematch on St. Stephen’s afternoon in the Community Field in aid of the newly formed Coolboy Community Field Development Group.

The day will start off at 1pm with a ‘Stars of the Future’ match where our up and coming GAA superstars will showcase their talents.

This will be followed by the rematch where we have been promised notable retirees from Coolboy GAA will make guest appearances on both sides.

Christy O’Rourke will renew his role of peacekeeper and referee along with last years successful Coolafancy and Coolboy captains that need no introduction John ‘Wobble’ Rawson and Tony ‘Turbo’ Donohoe.

Donations can be made on the gate on the day and we hope the community will come out and support us to further improve our grounds.

We have made tremendous efforts lately and all our work could not have been done without the community’s support and the donations we received in recent weeks which we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors for.
