Crowley steals show with top performanc­e

- GARDA TOURNAMENT

ARKLOW boxers finished 2017 with some excellent performanc­es and great wins at the recent underage tournament on Tuesday last which saw 26 boxers in action.

The tournament was sponsored by An Garda Síochána as part of their community involvemen­t. Sargent Vinny Byrne arranged and presented the medals on the night.

Jack Hudson enjoyed a great battle with Aidan Donoghue from Gorey and Aaron Mooney followed this with a fine performanc­e against Gorey’s Conor Molloy.

Callum Roche had a humdinger of a bout with Killian Sheridan from the Gorey Boxing Club while Lucas Godkin was in top form against Sheridan’s club mate Artinni Terschevoc.

Ross Farrell had a close encounter against Casey Travers, also from Gorey, while Paul Moore used his boxing skills to good effect against Liam Doyle from the same club.

Daniel Feokrytova showed his class when conceding a year against Jim Moorehouse in an entertaini­ng bout and Alan Merrigan made a great debut when mixing it up with John Holmes.

Philip Feokrytova was his brilliant self when mixing it up with Willie Burke and John Connors, both from Na Fianna club. Donnacha Murphy was impressive when in with Colm Baxter out of Gorey.

The healthy crowd enjoyed a cracking exhibition bout when local star Sean Crowley showed every inch of his class when in with current Elite welterweig­ht champion Dean Walsh out of the St Ibars Boxing Club in Wexford. This was boxing at its best and very entertaini­ng.

Liam Molloy gave his usual display of attacking boxing against James McCauley from the St Ibars club while Jack Ryan demonstrat­ed his skills against Sam Molloy.

Ross Leonard was in fine form against Danny Mallon and Sean Byrne was impressive against Ruaru O’Connor, both St Ibars oppenents.

Damien Aigbologa showed off his immense boxing skills against Ed Balowski from St Ibars while Niamh Malloy showed her powerful boxing skills against Sacre Cauer’s Roisin Balfe.

Michael Moorehouse was in fighting mood against Nathen Brooks from Sacre Couer while Josh Kirwan looked very sharp against Trevor Tyrrell also from Sacre Couer.

Andriei Shapkov was in good form against hard-hitting Darren O’Toole from Enniskerry and Darragh O’Connor showed real class against Enniskerry’s Johnny Lynch.

Tegan Farrell was in top condition against Rathnew native and Enniskerry Boxing Club member Abbey Doyle and Owen Moore gave a fine exhibition of long range boxing against Daniel Keogh Liberty while Jamie Doyle made a fine debut against Luke Murray from Liberty Boxing Club.

Jason Breen finished a fine night of boxing when giving a great display of power punching against Jake McMahon, also from the Liberty Boxing Club.

In Kilkenny on Friday, Owen Moore was always in control against Willie Reilly from Paulstown while Padraig Keogh had a close battle against Pat Drennan from the home club.

In Rosslare on Saturday, Lucas Godkin had a great win against Harry McGuinness from the Rosslare Boxing Club, winning all three rounds.

Damien Aigbologa’s opponent from Wexford pulled out due to illness.

In Enniscorth­y on Sunday, Luke Mulhall and Sean Tyndall had two wins against Wexford boxers in the league.

Both boys won all three rounds to reach the medal stages of the competitio­n.

Tegan Farrell had a great win against Deirdre Cullen from Connaught when she represente­d Leinster in an inter-provincial in Kildare on Sunday. Tegan won all three rounds clearly.

The 6pm training is now finished until Monday, January 8, while the older boys will have to continue limited training for the Boy 1, 2 and 3 Michael Andrews championsh­ips in early January.
