O’Gorman parts ways with UCD Waves
IN the hunt for glory, Aine O’Gorman has had to change the habit of a lifetime - her selflessness.
She has always been the ultimate team-mate and a manager’s dream as she puts just about everyone and everything ahead of herself.
A natural striker, O’Gorman has spent plenty of time in midfield or at right back for the Republic of Ireland WNT.
But now the 28-year-old has parted ways with UCD Waves and re-joined her former club Peamount United as she seeks to bulk up her medal collection.
“I was looking for a fresh start and a new challenge, and obviously I’d had good seasons with Peamount in the past and they have a good young side”, reasoned the Enniskerry woman.
“I want to be successful and I want to win trophies. I want to be part of a good set-up and I think Peamount has the ingredients to be very successful.
“The management team over there are very ambitious, so it seems like a good environment. I want to maximise what I can do.”
O’Gorman has been captain of the Waves since their creation in 2013 so it was not a decisio that she took lightly but, for once, she priorotised herself over others and bid farewell to UCD.
“It’s probably one of the most selfish decisions I’ve ever made, to move on from a group of girls I’ve played with for a while, but hopefully it’s the right decision.”
“I didn’t want to let any of the girls down at UCD or anything like that. I suppose I had to move on for myself and have a fresh start and a new challenge.”
“Peamount is probably the only other club I would play for. I’ve played for them in the past and I don’t think I would even consider any other options.
“If I was going to leave UCD I was going to go to Peamount.”
