Schoolneedsnew classrooms

December 1996

-

SPACE at Blessington Community College is now at a premium with still no sign of the two new classrooms which need to be built, according to the school’s principal.

An application for the rooms was made to the Department of Education by County Wicklow VEC last year and at last Monday’s VEC meeting in Blessington Community College principal Brian Dempsey urged members to keep the pressure on the Department.

Storage space is also badly needed in the college, according to Mr Dempsey, who explained that there is currently a space at the end of the gym being used for storage and a roof will shortly be going on this.

In addition, storage for science projects and equipment will also be needed.

In the light of the Community College’s hopes to start a transition year, these were things which needed to be looked at very seriously, stressed Brian Dempsey,

Another problem for the school management in Blessington was that of vandalism - recent damage which had to be repaired eating into the budget.

Meanwhile, the VEC meeting there that at St Kevin’s Community College in Dunlavin there was one ladies’ toilet for 18 female staff members. An application has been made to the Department for funding for a staff toilet suite, but no report has yet been received.
