ICA drama festival to begin Friday

THE final touches are being put to string of performanc­es as the 63rd Wicklow ICA Drama Festival gets under way this Friday.

The three-day festival at Glenealy Village Hall is open to drama and ICA groups and includes Section A for one-act plays or single acts from a full play and Section B for sketches. Last year, Coolgreany Drama Group won the Premier Award for Best Group, while the Condon Cup for Best ICA Group was awarded to Delgany ICA.

This year’s festival includes a total of 12 acts or sketches from groups up and down the east coast.

Kicking things off this Friday, January 19, will be Delgany ICA who takes to the stage to perform the one-act comedy ‘Whose Wedding is it anyway?’ by Margaret Bower, while Camross ICA from County Wexford present ‘A Galway Girl’, a one act comedy/ drama by Geraldine Aron.

Camross ICA have also entered Jimmy Keary’s one act comedy called ‘Up the Garden Path’, while the Dalkey Players’ production of ‘Here We Are’ by Dorothy Parker will be the final performanc­e of the night.

The following night, Saturday, January 20, will see Ashford ICA will present ‘Clara’s on the Curtains’, a one act comedy by Arthur Lovegrove before Delgany Drama Society perform the one-act drama ‘ The Exiles’ by Jeffrey Grenfell-Hill and Coolgreany Drama Society present ‘ Talk to me like the rain and let me listen’ by Tennessee Williams. Delgany Drama Society will ten return to the stage for the final act on the night, a sketch by Peter Robbie called ‘ The Life and Soul’.

On Sunday, January 21, Square One will present the one-act drama ‘Vigil’ by David Butler, St Patrick’s Drama Society will present a sketch by Christophe­r Durang called ‘DMV Tyrant’ and Kilrush Drama Group will perform the one-act drama ‘Bar and Ger’ by Geraldine Aron. The performanc­es will draw to a close with St Patrick’s Drama Society production of ‘Man on the Floor’, a one-act comedy devised by Neil Simon.

The curtains will rise at 7.30 p.m. sharp on each night. Tickets cost €10 at the door or can be purchased in advance by contacting (087) 9833935.
