Kiltegan plan to improve Division 4

-

KILTEGAN withdrew their motion to try improve the standards of the Division 4 football league due to the news that Leinster Council will be accommodating their suggestions in their news fixtures plan.

The motion stated: ‘The Division 4 league be divided into two groups. First group: All Junior B teams from the south and west; Second group are Junior ‘C’ teams from south and west playing league against each other at their own level and also north and east Division 4 do likewise’.

“This motion came from last year’s Division 4, what used to be the best run competition in the county for years. We’ve found in the last couple of years that it has kind of fallen down, for the simple reason that you have Junior C teams playing in Junior B league and they’re finding it hard to compete. Last year we got six walkovers from the Junior B league due to playing Junior C teams. It’s not fair to the team that are not playing at their own level. So, why not split the Division 4 so that teams are playing at their own level,” said Damien Byrne.

“I think, west Wicklow used to be always the strongest in Division 4. It’s died in the last two years. South Wicklow you could say is dead bar one or two teams and unless something is done, something has to happen. I think north and east is not too bad, but, definitely, south and east are very poor,” said Martin Fitzgerald.

Damien Byrne withdrew the motion after the update.
