NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

No on field action now till mid-February when the season will recommence with our 12’s and 14’s playing their two legged finals as a curtain raiser to the official calendar season. The Finals will be two-legged with the first leg been played the weekend of February 10/11 while the second leg will take place the weekend of February 17/18.

The under-12s will be up against Sporting Greystones with the first leg away while the 14’s will be up against Glencormac United and their first leg will also be away. Our teams will be back in training very soon. All respective team coaches will inform all players in due course, so don’t forget please communicat­e.

Well done to Aaron Hackett (under-12s) and Martin Kelly and Shane Synnott (under-13s) who were in action for their respective county teams last weekend. Our Developmen­t Squad are back in action next Saturday, December 20, in the community centre (10.11 a.m.)

Up till then the WDSL will be running Futsal over the coming months at three venues across the county i.e. Aughrim, Arklow and Newtown at the following age groups under-nines (2009/2010), under-11s (2007/2008) and un- der-13s (2005/2006).

Our latest team to be in action were the under-13s as they had their first outing in Newtown last Saturday. From their three games they won against Coolboy Rangers Girls and Sporting Greystones and lost against Aughrim Rangers. Their players on the day (with the goals they scored in brackets was as follows, Aaron Hackett, Bogdan Rusu, Jack Coughlan (2), Paudie Gammell (3), Hannah Martin (1), Aaron Cawley (3) and Martin Kelly (9). Well done also to Hannah and fellow team mate Keira Farrelly, who guested on the Cooboy girls’ team as well, where in fact Hannah scored a goal the late great George Best would have been proud of. Well done, everyone.

Next weekend it’s the turn of our two under-11s teams to play their next round of Futsal. Our 11’s Red are in Newtown (midday to 2 p.m.) where their opponents will be Greystones Utd, Enniskerry Red and Aughrim Rangers.

Our 11’s Black are in action on Sunday in Aughrim (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) where their opponents will be Roundwood, Coolboy Rangers and Aughrim Rangers.

Please remember parents to reply to all messages sent out from the coaches especially as they are organising teams/ matches, thank you. Our under-nines teams will be in action on the weekend of the February 27/28.

Our next Last Man Standing competitio­n will kick-off on the weekend of Saturday, January 20, till Monday, January 22. As before the cost is €10 per head and all money raised go back into the youth of the area. Please sup- port your local club. All support is very much appreciate­d.

Four of our players celebrate their birthday in the coming week and they are Jack Gavin from the Developmen­t Squad, Scott McKenna from the under-11s, Aaron Cawley from the under-12s and Rebecca Gillan from the under-14s. Happy birthday to all four from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

The club would like to extend its sincere condolence­s to the family and friends of Aaron O’Kelly from Bray, who played his football with Ardmore Rovers FC and Pat Smith from Greystones, who was secretary of Greystones AFC for many years who both sadly passed away recently. May they rest in peace.

MINDFULNES­S CLASSES

A six Week Mindfulnes­s Course started on Monday, January 8, from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. This Course will specifical­ly teach Mindfulnes­s Skills for managing Stress and Anxiety. No previous experience necessary. Cost: €60 for six weeks or €13 drop in. Contact Angelika at 087 2176068.

YOGA CLASS

Our new Yoga Class has started again on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. at the Corner House Village Practice. This class is suitable for all levels of experience and beginners are very welcome.
