Evans hoping for positive reaction

-

JOHN EVANS responded to Wicklow’s defeat to London with obvious disappointment while also giving London full credit for their win in the Allianz National Footbal League Division 4 at Ruislip last weekend.

“We were disappointed, we didn’t play well. London are a very good side who will cause problems for other sides over the next few weeks,” said the Wicklow boss.

Searching for a reason why London won, the Exiles played with the aid of the wind in the first half and built up an eight point lead at half-time and Evans pointed towards that.

“They settled into the game very well, they built up a lead and defended very well.

“They established themselves and in the second half they were very resistant.”

Evans is in the process of finding his best team and will reassess his team after the defeat before plotting the best way forward.

“We made four changes to the team from the last day, some of them enforced through injury, we’re always trying out new players.

“It’s about establishing a new team, bringing in a lot of young players and giving them experience.”

Wicklow face the top three teams in Division 4, Antrim, Laois and Carlow, in the next four weeks but Evans is only taking one game at a time.

“While we were disappointed with the result on Sunday we will look at the first game first which is against Antrim on Sunday and I certainly will be hoping for a good reaction after the loss against London.”
