SPORTING PRESS

Commiserations to our SCT hockey squad on their exit from the Leinster Senior Schools’ Cup quarter-finals last week. We were narrowly beaten in the dying minutes of the game by a strong Mount Anville side 2-1. Congratulations to Mount Anville on their win and we wish them further success in the semi-finals. This was an inspirational performance from our Senior Cup team who represented the School with great pride and skill last Friday. It is acompliment to all involved that the game came down to the final play and short corner dueto the remarkable effort of all of the players. Everyone involved should take a bow.

Meanwhile our first year hockey team beat a talented Loreto Dalkey in their Cup tie lastweek. Full time couldn’t separate the sides. The penalty shoot-out saw us come out eventual winners on a 3-2 score line. Congratulations to the side and we wish you continued success in your next fixture against Loreto Foxrock.

In Rugby our SCT took on St Fintan’s High School last Thursday in the Leinster Schools’ Cup. With St Fintan’s taking an early lead we had to dig deep to overcome a well drilled and talented side. With patience and discipline we scored tries from a blocked kick (Ethan Baxter, Capt), a ruck (Rory Wilson) and out wide from the wing (Paddy Opperman). Fly half Oliver Haydock converted and all but one try however added scores from penalties. The final result saw us eventual winners on a 23-7 score line. Tremendous performance and we look forward to the draw for the next round.

DEBATING

Well done to our CONCERN debating team who won their third round tie of the debatesagainst Gaelcoláiste na Mara last week. On Tuesday, January 16, our French debating team took on Belvedere College in the quarter-finals of the National French Language Debating Competition. They were against the motion ‘It is good to be young in Ireland today’. All four students were extremely impressive. The competition was very close, however Belvedere won. The award for ‘best speaker’ went to our Rachel Whitten.
