Local roads will be upgraded this year

-

LOCAL roads in Wicklow received a cash injection yesterday (Tuesday).

Speaking after yesterday’s cabinet meeting, Minister Simon Harris confirmed that Co Wicklow has been allocated €310,000 in Department of Community and Rural Development funding.

Funding for Local Authorities under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) is to support the improvement of non-public rural roads. The funding will allow for the repair and improvement of small roads and laneways leading to local people’s homes and businesses that are not under the normal maintenance of the Local Authorities.

Minister Harris said: ‘Wick- low County Council has received confirmation of this significant funding allocation and will be asked to prepare a list of projects for which they would use the funding.’

‘ Through my work meeting people in constituency clinics, I am very much aware of the many roads that urgently need improvement works. I will be writing to Wicklow County Council to highlight possible beneficiaries.’

The council has been asked submit a list of proposed roads projects including estimated costs, verification of agreement of the local contribution, number of residents as well a secondary list of roads which would be considered should further funding become available.
