Greystones parade will be fun for all the family

PREPARATIONS are under way for this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Greystones.

The parade will start at Greystones Park and Ride at 12 noon and groups are urged to gather at the meeting point at 11.30 a.m.

The parade will then pass through the town and up Church Road finishing at Victoria Road junction with the reviewing stand located at St Patrick’s Church.

This year’s parade promises to be bigger and better than ever before and anyone who wants to volunteer can contact 01 2876694, 01 2878448 or email GreystonesMD@wicklowcoco.ie.

Registration closed on February 23 but it may still be possible to enter if you contact Greystones Municipal District as soon as possible. The cost of entry is €20 for clubs and organisations and €40 for a commercial entry.

Prizes and plaques will be awarded in the following categories: Most Original Entry; Most Colourful Entry; Best Uniformed Organisation; Best Traditional Irish Entry; Most Topical Entry; Most Entertaining Entry; Best Social/ Cultural Entry; Best Sports Entry; Best Commercial Entry; Best Musical Entry and Overall Parade Winner.

In keeping with other years, the window display competition will be held in conjunction with the parade and local businesses and organisations are urged to decorate their windows as colourfully as possible.

No applications are needed for the window display competition and all decorated premises will be inspected and judged by an independent panel of judges.

Organisers said that participation in the window display competition will lend a festive air to the town and will also give visitors an opportunity to stop and admire.
