A former pupil of St Gerard’s School, Bray, has been awarded an Ad Astra Academy scholarship for academic excellence by University College Dublin.

Eighteen-year-old Hilary Gallagher from Delgany was awarded an Ad Astra Academy scholarship for her outstanding academic achievement at an awards ceremony recently, to celebrate the University’s new high calibre students.

Hilary has been in three consecutive Leinster Schoolgirls Hockey Senior Cup finals from 2015-2017. With her school team, they won the Leinster Cup in 2015, and continued to place second in the All-Ireland Schoolgirls Cup. She is also an active member of Greystones Athletics Club.

In addition, Hilary was Deputy Head Girl in her final year at St Gerard’s and was selected to participate in the McKinsey Leadership Academy 2017. She was awarded the President’s Bronze Gaisce Medal in 2015 and reached the Final of the Maths Prism Olympiad in 2012.

Hilary is currently studying in her first year of an undergraduate degree in Economics and Finance at University College Dublin.

There are three types of Ad Astra scholarships that students can apply for: academic, elite sports and performing arts.

The academic scholarship programme looks to select exceptional, high-achieving students and provides them with additional support and unique opportunities as they study for a degree at UCD.

These students must have a proven record of academic excellence and a desire to continue to achieve at the highest level. Applicants can now apply via the UCD Ad Astra Academy website: http://www.ucd.ie/ adastraacademy/.
