Pres Bray students shine at Green Schools showcase

-

A group of students from Presentation College in Bray showcased their work at the Annual Green Schools Showcase in the RDS last Thursday.

Just twelve schools from across the country were selected to show their Green Schools initiatives.

The Pres Bray students involved used art to tackle energy consumption in the school and the broader community.

In collaboration with the Green Schools committee, they achieved a reduction of 26000KWH, amounting to a saving of over €4,000.

The campaign entitled ‘ The Energy Bandits’ has achieved massive support and interest from a range of parties in various sectors. The group teamed up with local charity ‘80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World’ to explore the global consequences of their work and this has helped to nurture their own commitments to a more sustainable future.

Last Thursday, ‘ The Energy Bandits’ brought a series of ten posters, stickers and fliers to the RDS Green Schools Showcase to demonstrate their energy awareness campaign.

Teacher Clifton Rooney said they were delighted with how the students performed on the day.

‘We are deeply proud of Luca Pezillo O’Brien, Ciaran McKay and Jack Lawlor, who have grown a local art and green schools campaign into a national phenomenon. At the event, Evelyn Cusack, Eamon Ryan and Minister Denis Naughten were all proud to be an Energy Marshall in support of the campaign.’

Thanks were extended to Clifton Rooney, Stuart Hannon, Shane McInerney, Donna-Marie McFaul, Jackie Cronin, Principal Pat Gregory, Head of Board of Management Tony Bellew and the CEO of the PBST Michael Sexton and Tony Daly without whom the campaign would have been impossible.
