Brave Arklow side comes up short against Wexford
ARKLOW RFC WEXFORD RFC 12 25
ARKLOW welcomed league leaders Wexford to the Oval on Sunday in the Under-14 Leinster League Division 1.
With Wexford currently cruising in three competitions, Arklow were well aware of the need to put in a massive performance.
From the off Arklow’s intentions were clear with strong runs from forwards Daire Furlong and Theo Vanhoove.
The persistent pressure from Arklow lead to an early try by Oisin Beirne which was converted by Con Kinsella.
Wexford turned up the pressure and scored three unconverted tries in a row to leave Arklow behind at half-time.
The second half swung back in Arklow’s favour with Dean Farrell making big carries and Rian Downes putting in the telling tackles; Farrell scoring midway through the second half to bring Arklow back to within three points.
Hard work by Sean Weld, Jamie Tobin and Calvin Kirya unfortunately failed to break the opposition’s defence.
Two late tries by Wexford flattered their score on the day. Arklow doing themselves proud against tough opposition.
With the scheduled league fixtures finished now, Arklow have a friendly match with Wicklow next weekend, ahead of their first round Leinster Plate fixture the following weekend.
