MISSING SHELTON ABBEY PRISONER FOUND IN PUB

-

A SHELTON ABBEY prisoner who absconded from the minimum security unit last week was arrested while having a drink in an Arklow pub.

The 39-year-old walked out of the prison shortly before midnight and, once the alarm was raised, a widespread search of the local area commenced. Gardaí and the Defence Forces combed the woodland around Shelton Abbey and eventually caught up with the man after he made contact to inform gardaí of his location.

He was arrested and detained at Arklow Garda Station as he was under the influence of alcohol and was later returned to the custody of the Irish Prison Service. He was coming to the end of a two and a half year sentence for aggravated robbery.
