Fawsitt’s first for Eagles

-

STORM EMMA may have ruled Dr. Hickey Park out of action but a graduate of the Greystones rugby venue was making a storm of his own as he scored his first ever international try.

Dylan Fawsitt joined Greystones RFC in 1997 as a seven-year-old and spent 15 happy years there - the final three of those spent on the first team in the All-Ireland League.

The ambitious Wexford native wanted to better himself though so he joined St. Mary’s in 2012. After two seasons with Mary’s, the ex-Blackrock College student challenged himself again as he emigrated to the USA with the aim of qualifying to play for the USA national rugby team after three years of residency there.

The hooker earned a masters in sports/health science at the Life University in Athlanta before joining Old Blues Club in New York.

He also coaches at Murrough and Fordham Universities.

In September of 2017, Fawsitt had completed his three years of residency and was therefore entitled to represent the national side - known as the Eagles.

Since then, he has earned three caps - starting two of those matches - but the highlight came on Saturday as he landed his first try in a comprehensive 61-19 victory over Uruguay.

Fawcett, 27, will now be hoping to continue his impressive form to ensure that he is a part of the Eagles’ plan for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
