One busy weekend completed and another about to begin!

WICKLOW RFC’S boys and girls were back in action at the weekend after snow stopped play the previous week.

On an unusually balmy day in comparison to recent conditions, the under-10s and 12s girls were in action at home as were the under-11s boys while the under-9s were competing in away games on Sunday morning.

The under-10s and 12s girls hosted Tullow at home in Ashtown Lane.

For the under-10s it was their first fixture since their great outing to Mullingar in January and the girls enjoyed a great morning with a lot of free flowing, running rugby using all the space available to them. Both teams put their training to good use and their months of hard work was evident on the pitch.

Wicklow under-12s girls put on a fine display of rugby against their Tullow counterparts.

The evenly matched teams played four closely contested games, demonstrating their rucking, tackling, and passing skills.

In good conditions, the girls showed fine running form as well and had the support of parents and friends, as well as younger siblings, some of whom came up to watch the matches after their own training. The girls continue to develop their skills and look forward to more tests in the coming weeks following their successful Six Nations half-time run out last month.

Wicklow’s under-9s boys and girls made the short trip to close neighbours, Greystones RFC for a three way tie with Seapoint. On a bright sunny morning, the under-9s enjoyed some excellent rugby, scored some fabulous tries and defended their line very well.

Old Wesley travelled to Ashtown Lane on Sunday morning with two squads of under-11s. The Wicklow and Old Wesley sides played out some entertaining contests with both teams relishing the opportunity to get playing after their weather enforced break.

They quickly got into their stride with some great running and passing and both sides grew in confidence as the games went on culminating in some fine defensive work and great spirited team tries.

The week ahead sees many activities at the club beginning with the St Patrick’s day parade in Wicklow. Minis will meet at Whitegates at 12.30 pm with players and parents in club colours. Minis will train on Sunday morning at 11am and in the afternoon the Seniors meet Skerries in the Town’s Cup quarter-finals at 3pm in Wicklow.
