While all this was going on in Newbridge in the National Stadium Arklow’s Junior boxers Sean Crowley and Matthew Tyndall pulled out all the stops to reach the National finals next weekend.

Sean beat four-times Irish champion Garvin Rafferty and got the decision 5-0 from the judges, a great achievement.

Sean’s opponent in next week’s Irish final is Adam Matthews from Monkstown. Matthew gained a split decision over Francis Maughan of St Mary’s and takes on Patrick Joyce of Balmoyle BC next weekend in the final.

Arklow young guns Connor Gavin and Jack did very well in Gorey on Saturday night backed up by Padraig Keogh who used his jab to great effect winning well.

Dillon Godkin Harper also gave it his best shot but was beaten by a more experienced opponent. Jason Breen on Sunday night boxed in Ferns in a humdinger of an exhibition and did well.

Girls Leinsters weigh in next Saturday morning with Arklow entering three boxers, Tegan Farrell, Amber Byrne and Niamh Molloy who are all expected to do well.
