Glencormac United Seniors faced a massive league game last Thursday against Arklow United and sadly, the result went the way of the opposition as the Glens went down 0-1.

Needing four points from the last two games and roared on by a huge crowd, the Glens started nervy but looked like they had taken the lead when captain Ben O’Callaghan almost finished off a sweeping move but the ball rebounded off the post.

The second half was end to end but Arklow got the vital breakthrough midway through the second half and despite forcing two good saves from the Arklow keeper, it was not to be and Arklow won the title.

Congratulations to Arklow United who, in their 40th year had to win the game to win the title and they did.

The Glens have still had a wonderful season winning the Thomas Scott Cup, promotion to the Premier and made their first ever appearance in a Wicklow Cup Final and can hold their heads up high.

The team would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support this village gave them this past month and the cheer they all still gave despite the disappointment of last Thursdays defeat. (The game is covered in more detail on sports pages)

There was also plenty action on the junior front. The under-eights were at home to Roundwood and after facing the same opposition a few weeks ago away to the same team, the young Glens really stepped it up a gear and just about shaded the series of four games. The star players were Darragh Murray (who scored a Ronaldo like freekick), Ruby Devlin, who was superb in defence and Harry Browne and Sam Moraghan showing some excellent silky skills.

The under-10s won 4-1 with Seán Prendergast scoring twice, Luke Kelly and Jude Leahy adding to the total. Oisin Short, Cian Levins and Beibhinn Lavery were all in excellent form on the day.

The under-11s faced Wolfe Tone at home and after a tight first half where the teams went in at the break at 3-3, Wolfe Tone stormed out of the blocks after the restart and hit a further four without reply (Manager Ger Holmes must have given some halftime speech here). Glens manager Alan Condon was delighted with his teams efforts with goal machine Aishling Meehan getting a great hattrick. Well done, 11s.

The under-12s won 4-1 away to Enniskerry. The four goals came from Conor O’Donnell, Billy Mansfield, Michael Prendergast and Ben Morgan in a very good all-round team display.
