Former council tenant is banned from the estate

-

A PERSON was excluded from a social housing estate in Bray following proceedings brought to the District Court by Bray Municipal District.

Housing officer Triona Irving told members of the district council last Tuesday evening.

The exclusion order was made due to the anti-social behaviour of a tenant, whose family lives in the particular estate.

The person in question can’t enter the estate where the tenants live for three years. The council can return to the courts to apply for an extension to that time if necessary.

Ms Irving said that they had worked together with the gardaí.

The person had resided in the estate with family prior to his removal, not affecting the tenancy of others in the property in any way.

In other circumstances, a repossession was enforced in a case where a person was not entitled to reside in a particular property, part of Bray Municipal District social housing stock.

The circumstances were of the nature that a tenant had died, and their family member was now living in the house, but had never been on the tenancy agreement.

A second similar case was settled prior to going to court.

Ms Irving said that the council has powers under the housing act to enforce tenancy agreements, and they will be used.

Cllr Joe Behan thanked the staff for their efforts. He said that this sends out a clear message that the tenancy agreement must be upheld.
