Emotional evening for Tiglin fundraiser with Paddy Casey
IN A HUGE display of generosity of spirit, musician Paddy Casey played a concert in Greystones last Thursday night, hours after attending the funeral of his mother.
The gig was a benefit for Tiglin addiction charity, hosted by Temple Carrig secondary school, and Paddy insisted on going on-stage following his family bereavement.
Also on the bill were Paddy’s daughter Saoirse Casey, long-time close friend Declan O’Rourke and friend and fellow musician Lisa Loughrey.
One of the organisers Yvonne Hyland said that it was a very special evening, and the audience’s privilege to share those hours with Paddy and his friends and family.
Members of the Casey family took to the stage together for a song to remember and celebrate the late Betty.
‘He was supposed to play for 40 minutes yet performed for around two hours,’ said Yvonne. She said that those fortunate enough to witness the performance have been talking about how unforgettable a night it was.
Prior to the concert, there was a market, food and refreshments on the grounds, and of course wonderful weather adding to the atmosphere.
Parents, teacher, people from Greystones and Tiglin supporters all mixed to enjoy the event at Temple Carrig.
The school had a partnership with the charity throughout the year. They carried out fundraising activities, and in a very beneficial project, former clients came in to talk to the students about their recovery. Speakers included a young man who had been to prison, suffered addiction, and come out the other side.
‘Massive thanks to the school,’ said Yvonne. ‘Without their help and support we wouldn’t have had such an amazing event.’
