CLLR JOHN RYAN, pictured right, was elected leas-cathaoirleach for the coming term. In the aftermath, Cllr Oliver O’Brien, who was also proposed, called for a different method to select the chair and vice-chair positions.
Cllr Brendan Thornhill had nominated Cllr O’Brien, saying he was a great community man, and a man of the people. ‘I think he deserves the recognition,’ said Cllr Thornhill.
Cllr Joe Behan added that he has known Cllr O’Brien for 35 years, and he has given enormously of his own time and resources.

Cllr Christopher Fox said that despite having voted for Cllr Ryan, he has the utmost respect for Cllr O’Brien as a person and a politician. Cllr Steven Matthews agreed, and commended Cllr O’Brien, but added that every member around the table is equal.

‘ The council officials cannot determine appropriate restrictions without consultation from concerned residents nor impose restrictions that have not been agreed by consensus of the relevant owners,’ said officials.
Cllr Brendan Thornhill asked if members can receive an update on the housing situation in Bray – including categories of applicants for social housing, and the number of homeless people.
Housing officer Triona irving said that this will be possible. She asked councillors to be mindful that people can apply for three different areas, so they could be double or triple counted.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Pat Vance said that it is a good idea, but it is time-
consuming and there are limited staff. He suggested a report on a quarterly basis rather than every month.
In a notice of motion by Cllr Brendan Thornhill, he asked that the council ensure that gas boilers are serviced on a regular basis and that maintenance and servicing of gas boilers are kept to a high standard.
The response was that the annual servicing of gas boilers within Municipal District housing stock has commenced. Boilers are serviced by RGII certified contractors.
Also in a motion by Cllr Thornhil, he asked that the council examine all directional signs in Bray to make sure they are all pointing in the right direction and that they are 100 per cent functional.
The response was that signs are realigned as soon as staff are available after they come to the attention of the supervisors.
